    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently form a fine liquid droplet with a specific means liquid droplet size by a simple device by emitting a liquid becoming a dispersion phase into a gaseous phase from a straight nozzle at flow velocity such that the Re number at the outlet part of a nozzle becomes a specific value to mix the same with a continuous phase. CONSTITUTION:In a method wherein a fine liquid droplet being a dispersion phase 1 is formed within a continuous phase not substantially dissolved in the dispersion phase 1, the liquid becoming the dispersion phase is emitted into a gaseous phase from a straight nozzle 3 at flow velocity such that the Re number at a nozzle outlet part becomes 200-300,000 to be mixed with the continuous phase 4. Or, the liquid becoming the dispersion phase 1 is emitted from the straight nozzle 3 immersed in the continuous phase 4 at the same flow velocity to be mixed with the continuous phase 4. As a result, a fine liquid droplet with a mean liquid droplet size of 10-300mum can be easily and efficiently obtained by a simple device. Further, liquid droplet size distribution is also sharp and this capacity is not changed after scaling-up.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain fine polymer particles with a uniform particle diameter in a high yield and to heighten the efficiency of the whole process, by reducing the droplet diameters of an emulsified monomer to values smaller than those attained by the conventional technique to thereby improve the stability of the emulsion and make the monomer more apt to be absorbed into seed polymer particles. CONSTITUTION:The title production process comprises causing an oil-soluble ethylenic monomer (a) and a nonionic organic compound (b) to be absorbed into seed polymer particles (c) dispersed in an aqueous dispersion medium (d) and then polymerizing the monomer in the presence of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator. A device is used in this process to collide a pressurized liquid mixture of the monomer (a), the compound (b), and the medium (d) with itself or with a pressurized liquid mixture of the particles (c) and the medium (d) to thereby disperse the ingredients and emulsify the monomer (a). The resulting ingredients are mixed and the monomer (a) is then polymerized.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove a specific impurity in a short time and purify an ionic polymer, by treating an aqueous solution of the ionic polymer containing the specific impurity with an ultrafiltration membrane and/or a reverse osmosis membrane under specified conditions. SOLUTION: The aqueous solution comprising (A) an ionic polymer having preferably 3.0 equiv./kg quantity of electric changes based on unit weight and 5,000-1,500,000 weight - average molecular weight and (B) a low-molecular impurity electrified with the same sign as that of the component A such as an ionic residual monomer and (C) mixed solvent of (i) >=60wt.% water and, as necessary, (ii) an organic solvent is treated with an ultrafiltration membrane and/or a reverse osmosis membrane having preferably 4-100nm average pore diameter under conditions of 7-20wt.% concentration of the component A and >=0.30g equiv./L quantity of electric charges of the component A in the aqueous solution to remove the component B.
