Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polymer beads uniform in particle diameter by effecting the polymerization of a suspension formed by dispersing a polymerizable monomer with the aid of a dispersant in an annular space between an outer stationary cylinder and an inner rotary coaxial cylinder at a revolution speed to give a specified Archimedes number and a specified Taylor number. CONSTITUTION:The polymerization of a suspension formed by dispersing drops of a polymerizable monomer (B) in a continuous phase (A) containing a dispersant in the annular space between an outer stationary cylinder 2 and a inner rotary coaxial cylinder 1. The above polymerization is effected under conditions in which the Taylor number as defined by equation II [wherein Rj is the outside diameter of cylinder 1; omega is the angular revolution speed of cylinder 1; d is the width of the annular space; and nu is the kinematic viscosity) lies in the range: 1.16X10 Ar+38.8 ; and in the range: 8.12X10 Ar-367 7X10 (wherein Ar is an Archimedes number as defined by equation I (wherein DELTArho is the difference between the specific gravity of the drop and that of continuous phase (A); Dp is the diameter of a drop; mu is the viscosity of continuous phase A; and g is the gravitational acceleration)]. The above suspension is formed by previously mixing phase A with monomer B in a drop formation apparatus 7. Under above conditions, a Taylor vortex is generated to stabilize the drops, resulting in the formation of beads uniform in particle diameter.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a granular and/or powdery bathing agent composition capable of favorably emulsifying and dispersing oily component by blending a capsule in which an oily component and surfactant are sealed as bathing agent ingredients with a bathing base. CONSTITUTION:The bathing agent composition is obtained by including a surfactant-containing seamless capsule in which oily component such as oils and fats, wax, hydrocarbons, higher fatty acids, essential oils and a surfactant component, preferably a nonionic surfactant having 7-18, especially 8-13 HLB are sealed as a bathing agent component in a granular or powdery bathing base. The capsule is prepared by continuously each discharging a film-forming liquid from the utmost nozzle, liquids for various kinds of inner layers containing oily components and surfactant components from other nozzles into a vapor phase or liquid phase using at least triple or more multiple nozzle to form a multilayer liquid drop and then curing and gelling the liquid for film-formation of the multilayer liquid drop.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a highly water-absorbing polymer in high production efficiency, preventing the deposition of polymer particles in a reactor, by continuously carrying out polymerization reaction, control of water-content and crosslinking steps in individual reactors. CONSTITUTION:The objective highly water-absorbing polymer can be produced by continuously carrying out the following stage using one or more reactors for each stop. (1) A step to produce a slurry containing polymer phase by dissolving a water-soluble vinyl monomer (e.g. acrylic acid and itaconic acid) and a water-soluble polymerization initiator (e.g. potassium persulfate and sodium persulfate) in water, suspending the obtained aqueous solution in a hydrocarbon (e.g. n-pentane and cyclohexane) and subjecting the dispersion to suspension polymerization. (2) A step to remove water in the polymer phase of the slurry together with the hydrocarbon from the system. (3) A step to add a water-soluble crosslinking agent to the slurry containing the polymer phase and carry out crosslinking reaction in the polymer phase.
