Abstract: Provided is a modulation apparatus that can reduce time delay of on-channel repeaters in a terrestrial digital television broadcasting system. The time delay is caused by a filter during the modulation operation in the on-channel repeaters. The modulation apparatus of the present research includes: a baseband signal forming unit for forming a baseband signal by combining the output signals of an equalization unit with the pre-defined field/segment synchronization signals in the on-channel repeaters; a pilot inserting unit for inserting a pilot signal to the baseband signal; an up-sampling unit for up-sampling the baseband signal with the pilot signal; a VSB filtering unit for filtering the up-sampled baseband signal based on a Window technique and/or an Equi-Ripple filter to thereby form an in- phase (I) signal and a quadrature (Q) signal; an up-converting unit for up-converting the frequencies of the filtered I and Q signals to frequencies of an intermediate frequency (IF) band; an adding unit for adding the up-converted L and Q signals and converting a resultant signal into a digital VSB signal of the IF band; and a digital-to-analogue converting unit for converting the digital signal of the IF band to an analogue signal.

Abstract: Provided are a distributed repeater for repeating output signals identica l to input signals through a channel different from that of main transmitter signals but identical to channels of other distributed repeaters, and a dis tributed repeating method thereof. The distributed repeater includes: a pre- processing unit configured to receive a radio frequency (RF) signal transmit ted from an external device and demodulate the RF signal into a baseband sig nal; an equalizer configured to equalize the baseband signal to correct a di stortion occurring on a transmission channel; an identification signal gener ation and insertion unit configured to generate an identification signal for identification of the distributed repeater and network conditioning, and in sert the identification signal in the equalized baseband signal; and a post- processing unit configured to convert the baseband signal from the identific ation signal generation and insertion unit into an RF signal, and send the R F signal.

El aparato incluye un medio de recuperacion del portador para compensar un error de frecuencia del portador de una senal de recepcion; un medio de recuperacion de regulacion para compensar un error de regulacion de muestreo de la senal de recepcion; un medio reflector del error del portador para reflectar el error de frecuencia del portador extraido desde el medio de recuperacion del portador a una senal de transmision y un medio reflector del error de regulacion para reflejar el error de regulacion de muestreo extraido desde el medio de recuperacion de regulacion a la senal de transmision. La presente invencion se usa para formar una red de repeticion de canal activo en cualquier sistema de transmision incluyendo un sistema de transmision de television digital.

Abstract: Provided are a method of estimating an encoder for dual stream transmission, and an encoder using the same. The method includes the steps of : a) setting up the number of memories required for an encoder, a free distance condition for robust data, and a free distance condition for mixed stream of robust data and normal data; b) obtaining 1/2 rate encoder combinations that sustain backward compatibility with a typical trellis encoder; c) obtaining encoder combinations H that satisfy the free distance condition for the robust data and the free distance condition for the mixed stream from the 1/2 rate encoder combinations; d) obtaining relations between memories and input/output signals, which satisfy the encoder combinations H; and e) configuring an encoder according to the obtained relation between the memories and the input/output signals.

Abstract: Provided is a frequency synchronizing apparatus and method that can synchronize frequencies between receiving signals and transmitting signals b y extracting a carrier error and sampling timing error information in a synchronization process of the receiving signal from a main transmitter or another repeater and reflecting them in the transmitting signal in an on- channel repeater. The apparatus includes a carrier recovery means for compensating a carrier frequency error of a receiving signal; a timing recovery means for compensating a sampling timing error of the receiving signal; a carrier error reflecting means for reflecting the carrier frequenc y error extracted from the carrier recovery means to a transmitting signal; an d a timing error reflecting means for reflecting the sampling timing error extracted from the timing recovery means to the transmitting signal. The present invention is used to form an on-channel repeating network in any transmission system including a digital television broadcasting system.

Abstract: Provided is a Vestigial Side Band Digital Television (DTV) transmitter /receiver based on Advanced Television System Committee A/53. The invention provides DTV transmitter/receiver having a dual stream structure through generation of robust data which has a transmission rate a fourth as fast as that of normal data, and a method thereof . The DTV transmitter includes: input means for receiving digital video data stream including normal and robust data; encoding means for performing 1/4 rate coding on the digital video data stream so that one bit can be transmitted through two symbols; and transmitting means for modulating/transmitting output signals of the encoding means. This invention can reduce SNR and satisfy TOV of robust data by performing additional FEC on robust data, transmitting/receiving 1/4 rate coded robust data, which are capable of transmitting one-bit data for two symbols, and improving decoding ability of an equalizer and a trellis decoder of a DTV receiver.

Abstract: Provided is a modulating apparatus and method of an on-channel repeater. An object of the present invention is to provide a modulating apparatus of an on-channel repeater for reducing time delay by configuring and up-sampling a baseband signal, filtering the up-sampled baseband signal with an Equi-Ripple (ER) filter or in a window method, and converting the filtered baseband signal into an RF signal. The modulating apparatus includes: a baseband signal configuring unit for configuring a baseband. signal by combining an input field and a segment sync signal; a pilot adding unit for adding a pilot signal to the baseband signal; a filtering unit for filtering the baseband signal with the pilot signal; and an RF up-converting unit for up-converting the filtered signal into an RF signal. The present invention is used to form an on-channel repeating network in a transmitting system including a digital TV broadcasting system.
