Abstract: The novel transition metal compound of the invention is represented by the following formula (I): (see figure I) wherein M is a transition metal; R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or the like; R3 is an alkyl group of 2 to 20 carbon atoms; R4 is an alkyl group of 2 to 20 carbon atoms; X1 and X2 are each a halogen atom or the like; and Y is a divalent hydrocarbon group, a divalent silicon-containing group or the like. The transition metal compound is useful for an olefin polymerization catalyst with which a propylene (co)polymer having specific structure is prepared.

Abstract: The polycarbonates of the present invention include those having a skeletal structure of pentaerythritol, neopentyl glycol or trimethylolmethane, and specific dicarbonates. The lubricating oil and electrical insulating oil of the invention contain the above-mentioned polycarbonates. The polycarbonates of the invention are excellent in compatibility with Freon R-134a (HFC) as well as in lubricating properties, detergency and electrical insulating properties, and are capable of providing lubricating oil for refrigerator, automotive engine oil, automotive gear oil, lubricating oil for rolling and lubricating oil for fiber, especially lubricating oil for which electrical insulating properties are required, and electrical insulating oil.

Abstract: The present invention provides lubricant oil compositions comprising a polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate. The lubricant oil compositions are useful for industrial gear oil, automotive gear oil, and lubricant oil for refrigerators, rolling installations and fibers, which are excellent in lubricating properties and detergency. The present invention also relates to lubricant oil compositions which comprise a polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate having mutual solubility with an ozone layer-nondestructive Freon such as Freon R-134a, and which are accordingly especially suited for refrigerators using hydrogenated fluorocarbon as a refrigerant. A polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate according to the invention comprises a polyoxypropylene group in the molecular chain and an alkyl group and an alkyloxyalkylene group at the molecular terminals. This invention provides a process for preparing said polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate wherein a polypropylene glycol and a carbonate are allowed to react, said reaction including condensation polymerization. The invention also provides a process without condensation polymerization for preparing a polyalkylene glycol polyol wherein a polyol and a carbonate is allowed to react in the presence of a basic catalyst while a produced alcohol is being distilled off, the catalyst is removed then, and the unreacted carbonate is eliminated.

Abstract: The novel propylene elastomer according to the invention contains (1) units derived from propylene in amounts of 50 to 95 % by mol and units derived from 1-butene in amounts of 5 to 50 % by mol, and has (2) triad tacticity (mm fraction), determined by the 13C-NMR spectrum (hexachlorobutadiene solution, based on tetramethylsilane), of not less than 90 %, (3) an intrinsic viscosity (in decalin at 135 .degree.C) of 0.1 to 12 dl/g, (4) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of not more than 3 and (5) a randomness parameter B value of 1.0 to 1.5, preferably 1.0 to 1.3. In addition, the elastomer desirably has properties that (6) the elastomer has a melting point Tm of 60 to 140 .degree.C, and the melting point Tm and a 1-butene constituent unit content M (% by mol) in the elastomer satisfy the relation -2.6M + 130 .ltoreq. Tm .ltoreq. -2.3M + 155, and (7) a crystallinity C of the elastomer measured by X-ray diffractometry and the 1-butene constituent unit content M (a by mol) satisfy the relation C .gtoreq. -1.5M + 75. Such propylene elastomer is excellent in rigidity, heat resistance, scratch resistance, transparency, heat sealing properties and blocking resistance. The propylene elastomer can be prepared using a specific transition metal compound catalyst.

Abstract: A propylene polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer (A1) prepared by using a metallocene catalyst and having a melt flow rate (MFR) of 0.01 to 30 g/10 min and a propylene polymer (A2) prepared by using a metallocene catalyst and having a melt flow rate (MFR) of 30 to 1,000 g/10 min and, if desired, a soft polymer, a ratio [(A2)/(A1)] of the MFR of said propylene polymer (A2) to the MFR of said propylene polymer (A1) being not less than 30. A propylene polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer prepared by using a titanium catalyst and having MFR of 0.01 to 30 g/10 min and the above-mentioned propylene polymer (A2) and, if desired, a soft polymer. A propylene polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer prepared by using a titanium catalyst and having MFR of 0.01 to 50 g/10 min and an ethylene/olefin random copolymer prepared by using a metallocene catalyst. A propylene polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer prepared by using a catalyst containing a specific metallocene compound and at least one synthetic resin selected from a propylene polymer different from the above propylene polymer, an olefin elastomer and an olefin polymer. These propylene polymer compositions are excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength, tensile elongation at break, etc., and hence they can be favorably used for 291 various structural materials such as those of automobiles and electrical appliances, daily necessaries, various films and sheets.

Abstract: Disclosed is a novel transition metal compound represented by the following formula: wherein M is a transition metal, X is halogen or the like, R1 is a hydrocarbon group or the like, R2 is an aryl group substituted with a halogenated hydrocarbon group, and Y is a divalent silicon-containing group or the like. Also disclosed are an olefin polymerization catalyst component comprising the transition metal compound, an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising the olefin polymerization catalyst component, and a process for olefin polymerization using the olefin polymerization catalyst. An olefin polymerization catalyst component having high polymerization activity can be formed from the transition metal compound. By the use of the olefin polymerization catalyst or the process for olefin polymerization, polyolefins having a high melting point and a high molecular weight can be prepared with high polymerization activity.
