Abstract: Disclosed is a novel transition metal compound represented by the following formula: wherein M is a transition metal, X is halogen or the like, R1 is a hydrocarbon group or the like, R2 is an aryl group substituted with a halogenated hydrocarbon group, and Y is a divalent silicon-containing group or the like. Also disclosed are an olefin polymerization catalyst component comprising the transition metal compound, an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising the olefin polymerization catalyst component, and a process for olefin polymerization using the olefin polymerization catalyst. An olefin polymerization catalyst component having high polymerization activity can be formed from the transition metal compound. By the use of the olefin polymerization catalyst or the process for olefin polymerization, polyolefins having a high melting point and a high molecular weight can be prepared with high polymerization activity.

Abstract: The olefin polymerization catalyst of the invention is formed from a Group IVB transition metal compound represented by the following formula (I) and an organoaluminum oxy-compound or a compound which reacts with the transition metal compound to form an ion pair. In the olefin polymerization process of the invention using this catalyst or a catalyst formed from a Group IVB transition metal compound represented by the following formula (II) and an organoaluminum oxy-compound or a compound which reacts with the transition metal compound to form an ion pair, an olefin (co)polymer having a high molecular weight can be obtained with high polymerization activities, and besides an olefin copolymer having a high comonomer content can be obtained even if a comonomer is used in a small amount. (I) (II) wherein, M is a transition metal of Group IVB, at least one of R1 is an aryl group and the remainder is hydrogen or the like, R2 is hydrogen, an alkyl group or the like, R3 and R4 are each hydrogen, an alkyl group or the like, R6 is hydrogen, an alkyl group or the like, R7 is hydrogen, an alkyl group or the like, any one of R8 and R9 is an alkyl group, and X1 and X2 are each halogen, a hydrocarbon group or the like.

Abstract: The novel transition metal compound of the invention is represented by the following formula (I): (see formula I) wherein M is a transition metal; R1 is a hydrocarbon group of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, R2 is an aryl group of 6 to 16 carbon atoms; X1 and X2 are each a halogen atom or the like; and Y is a divalent hydrocarbon group, a divalent silicon-containing group or the like. An olefin polymerization catalyst component of the present invention comprises the aforementioned transition metal compound. An olefin polymerization catalyst of the present invention comprises the aforementioned olefin polymerization catalyst component. The propylene homopolymer, the propylene copolymer and the propylene elastomer according to the present invention have such properties that the triad tacticity of propylene units chain is high, a proportion of the inversely units based on the 2,1-insertion of propylene monomer is in the specific range, and the intrinsic viscosity [.pi.], as measured in decahydronaphthalene at 135.degree.C, is in the specific range.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an olefin polymerization catalyst which makes it possible to produce a polyolefin having high melting point, high molecular weight, and a narrow molecular weight distribution and composition distribution with high activity by using a specified transition metal compound as the constituent. CONSTITUTION:A transition metal compound represented by the formula (a new substance). This compound can be used as an olefin polymerization catalyst component. For example, a catalyst consisting of a transition metal compound (A) of the formula and at least one compound (B) selected from an organoaluminum oxy compound and a compound that reacts with the compound A to form an ion pair can be used as an olefin polymerization catalyst. In the formula, M is a group IVa, Va or VIa transition metal; R is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; R is a 1-16C aryl group substituted by a 1-20C halogenated hydrocarbon group; X and X are each H, halogen or a 1-20C hydrocarbon group; and Y is a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a 1-20C divalent halogenated hydrocarbon group, etc.

SOLUTION: This new transition metal compound is represented by formula I (M is a transition metal atom of the group IVb in the periodic table; R -R are each H, a halogen, a 1-10C alkyl, a 6-20C aryl, etc.; X and X are each H, a halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon, etc.; Y is a 1-20C divalent hydrocarbon, a 1-20C divalent halogenated hydrocarbon, etc.), e.g. ethylene 2-methyl-4-(9- phenanthryl)-1-indenyl} (9-fluorenyl) zirconium dichloride. Furthermore, the compound is obtained, for example, by reacting an anion of the compound obtained by cross-linking a substituted indenyl compound to a substituted fluorenyl compound and represented by formula II with a compound represented by formula III within the temperature range of -78 to 50 deg.C for about 1-25hr.

The method for polymerizing the olefin comprises a reaction in the presence of the catalyst.
