Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolyester excellent in melt flow property and capable of providing high strength and high modulus molding, by reacting an acyloxyaromatic carboxylic acid with a specified polyethylene terephthalate copolymer and poly condensing the product. CONSTITUTION:90-30mol% acyloxyaromatic carboxylic acid is reacted and polycondensed with 10-70mol% polyethylene terephthalated copolymer consisting of 40-80mol% polyethylene 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylate units and 60-20mol% polyethylene terephthalated units. As the acyloxyaromatic carboxylic acid, p- acetoxybenzoic acid is particularly preferred. When the amount of an acyloxyaromatic carboxylic acid used is below 30mol% or above 80mol%, the copolyester finally produced does not have sufficient strength or modulus, which is not desirable.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. producing molding products with excellent mechanical and thermal properties, anisotropy and appearance, prepared by adding a copolymer of alpha-olefin and alpha,beta-unsatd. acid glycidyl ester, to a specified copolyester. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. is prepared by adding 0.5-30pts.wt. olefinic copolymer consisting of alpha-olefin and alpha,beta-unsatd. acid glycidyl ester to 100pts.wt. copolyester consisting of 20-50mol% polyethylene terephalate unit and/or polyethylene isophtalate unit and 80-50mol% polyethylene 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylate unit. When the amount of the olefinic copolymer is less than 0.5pts.wt., molding products with sufficient impact resistance and anisotropy and unobtainable and when it exceeds 30pts.wt., elastic modulus and thermal deformation point of the molding are lowered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To recover efficiently the titled high-purity substance useful as an improved raw material for polymers, by using dimethyl sulfoxide dissolving especially 4,4'-diphenylcarboxylic acid as a solvent, purifying it through recrystallization or reprecipitation. CONSTITUTION:In purifying 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid through recrystallization or reprecipitation, 7-25pts.wt., preferably 9-20pts.wt. based on 1pts.wt. 4,4'- diphenyldicarboxylic acid of dimethyl sulfoxide as a solvent is used. The dissolving temperature is 70-140 deg.C, preferably 80-120 deg.C, and the solution prepared in the ratio at the dissolving temperature is allowed to be cooled to near the room temperature to recrystallize and to precipitate the above-mentioned compound. This compound is filtered off at about 20-40 deg.C, and washed, to purify and to recover the desired high-purity compound.

Abstract: PURPOSE:A polyester copolymer containing diphenyldicarboxylic acid is melt spun under specific conditions into fiber and drawn to produce the titled fiber suitably used as an industiral material, becuase of its high Young's modulus, high strength and elongation. CONSTITUTION:A polyester copolymer that is made from (A) the dicarboxylic acid component consisting of 45-75mol% 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid and of 45-75mol% terephthalic acid and (B) the diol component mainly consisting of ethylene glycol, thus having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-1.8, is melt spun, passed through the heating chimney right under the spinneret and/or through a cooling medium to adjust the optical birefringence of the spun yarn to less than 40X10 . Then, the resultant yarn is drawn to give the objective fiber with an optical birefringence of 250-400X10 . USE:Tire cord or conveyor belt.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polyester which has good brihtness and transparency and forms fiber easily, by a method wherein terephthalic acid contg. p-formylbenzoic acid is esterified with ethylene glycol, then a phosphorus cpd., a cobalt cpd. and inorg. particles are added to the reaction mixt. and the resulting mixt. is subjected to polycondensation. CONSTITUTION:(A) Dicarboxylic acids consisting mainly of terephthalic acid contg. 100-1000ppm of p-formylbenzoic acid are esterified with (B) glycols consisting mainly of ethylene glycol until an esterification rate of not less than 95% is obtained. To the reaction mixt. are added (C) a phosphorus cpd, a cobalt cpd and inorg. particles having an average particle diameter of not more than 5mu and a refractive index of 1.40-1.70 in an amount determined by the formula I,II and III [wherein (P), (Co) are amounts added (based on each R atom) (ppm vs polymer), (FBA) is p-formylbenzoic acid content in terephthalic acid (ppm vs terephthalic acid), (Par) is amount of inorg, particles added (ppm vs polymer)]. The resulting mixt. is subjected to polycondensation to produce polyester.

The polyester resin composition consists of 99.7-55wt% thermoplastic polyester and 0.3-45 wt% polyester elastomer. The molded resin article is immersed in an alkali soln. having 5-50% concn. at 30-95 deg.C for 1-120min to roughen the surface, and plating is carried out by a conventional method.

Said arom. polycarbonate has a number- average MW of 15,000-80,000 and the quantity of the copolymerized glycidyl ester in the glycidyl group-contg. copolymer is 0.5-40wt%. The glycidyl group- contg. copolymer has a melt index of 0.1-100.

The incorporation of both of the B and C components remarkably improves the compsn. in stability of mechanical and electrical characteristics to retention and heat.
