    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title monofilament excellent in resistance to heat and chemicals, tensile strength, knot strength, flexural wear resistance etc., suitable for the fabrics for papermaking canvas and filters, etc. by melt spinning a polyphenylene sulfide with an ionomer resin dispersed in a specified island fashion therein. CONSTITUTION:(A) A polyphenylene sulfide 10 - 150 in melt flow rate is incorporated with (B) 5 - 20 wt.% of an ionomer resin prepared by copolymerization between (1) an alpha-olefin such as ethylene and (2) an alpha,beta-ethylene-based unsaturated carboxylic acid followed by crosslinking with metallic ion, and a melt blending is carried out, and the melt is then extruded, via a metallic fiber nonwoven fabric filter of pref. = 95 wt.% of the component B forming island component 0.5 - 4 mum in diameter on the cross section.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber of high strength and high modulus, low in creep, by heat treatment, at specified temperatures, of a high-molecular weight polyethylene solution incorporated with an organic compound having two or more vinyl groups followed by spinning and then hot drawing of the resultant undrawn yarn. CONSTITUTION:A solution of polyethylene with a weight-average molecular weight of $.700,000, incorporated with pref. 2-20wt.% of an organic compound having two or more vinyl groups (pref. soluble in the solvents for polyethylene, e.g., diarylphthalate, triaryl isocyanurate, divinylbenzene) is heat treated at temperatures at or higher than the swelling temperature of said polyethylene followed by spinning and then hot drawing of the resultant undrawn yarn pref. at 100-160 deg.C, thus obtaining the objective fiber.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polyethylene multifilament yarn free from adherence between single yarn, using a proper spinning bath, taking up yarn at a proper speed and extracting and removing a remaining solvent in the coagulated yarn with an extractant. CONSTITUTION:1-20wt% (preferably 3-10wt%) solution of a polyethylene having >=700,000 (preferably >=2,000,000) weight-average molecular weight is extruded from a spinning nozzle. Yarn is passed through an inert gas layer and a spinning bath of two layer structure having an upper layer of a cooling agent uncompatible with a solvent and a lower layer of a coabulating agent (higher specific gravity than cooling agent) compatible with the solvent and uncompatible with the cooling agent. The yarn is taken up at >=10m/min speed and the solvent in the yarn is successively extracted and removed with an extractant. The depth of the upper layer of the spinning bath satisfied the formula.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fiber having excellent tensile strength, initial modulus, etc., with a compact-sized apparatus on an industrial scale, by spinning and drawing a spinning dope of high-molecular-weight PE under specific condition, winding the drawn yarn and hot-drawing the yarn under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:A spinning dope produced from a 1-20wt% solution of PE having a weight-average molecular weight of >=700,000 is hot-drawn at a yarn- feeding rate of 10-50m/min (preferably 20-50m/min) and a draw ratio of 5-15 (preferably 5-12) and the drawn fiber is temporarily wound. The fiber is further hot-drawn at a yarn-feeding rate of 3-45m/min, preferably 20-45m/min and draw-retention time (ratio of length of drawing zone to feeding speed of yarn) of 1-20min, preferably 3-10min. The total draw ratio if >=30, preferably >=40.

The filament can be produced by drawing a filament produced by a spinning method characterized by the coagulation after gelation and passing through a low- temperature plasma generated in vapor of ammonia or a nitrogen-containing organic compound having low boiling point.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having a high strength, excellent in knot strength and useful as a fish net, a rope, etc., by reducing the degree of orientation of only the surface layer part of a highly orientated polyvinylidene fluoride monofilament using a specified method. CONSTITUTION:An infrared laser is applied to a polyvinylidene fluoride monofilament having >=25X10 birefringence coefficient to melt only the surface layer. The molten surface layer is then solidified again so that the degree of orientation of the surface layer may be reduced, thus obtaining the objective fiber having 0.013-0.09 ratio (r/R) of the thickness (r) of the above-mentioned low orientated surface layer to the radius (R) of the monofilament. In addition, the above-mentioned infrared laser is preferably applied from the multi-directions around the monofilament so as to prevent the resultant monofilament from having an asymmetrical structure with respect to the fiber axis.
