Abstract:
The present invention relates to a compound of formula (I) and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof wherein W is a bicyclic heterocyclic ring system. The compounds are alpha -1 adrenergic antagonists and are useful in the treatment of BPH; also disclosed are alpha -1 antagonist compositions and a method for antagonizing alpha -1 adrenoreceptors and treating BPH.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the production of pemoline (2-imino-5-phenyl-4-oxazilidinone) and its intermediates, reacting a cyanamide containing compound in a sodium alkoxide solution to form a reaction mixture. The reaction mixture is then added to an alkyl mandelate-solvent solution. The resultant reaction mixture is then acidified to a pH of 6.0 or less to precipitate a pemoline product.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for collecting a binding member of interest from a liquid specimen utilize a collection receptacle in which the specimen is deposited, with an affinity-filter media being placed in communication with a discharge port in the collection receptacle and a transfer device for drawing specimen from the collection receptacle and through the filter for capturing the binding member of interest. The collection receptacle, affinity-filter media and carrier therefor and the transfer device may be supplied in kit form for use in a clinical environment. A hypobaric vessel may be used and the transfer device and this vessel may also serve as a disposal receptacle for the liquid specimen passed through the filter media.
Abstract:
A set of contiguous and partially overlapping RNA sequences and polypeptides encoded thereby, designated as BS106 and transcribed from breast tissue is described. These sequences are useful for the detecting, diagnosing, staging, monitoring, prognosticating, preventing or treating, or determining the predisposition of an individual to diseases and conditions of the breast such as breast cancer. Also provided are antibodies which specifically bind to BS106-encoded polypeptide or protein, and agonists or inhibitors which prevent action of the tissue-specific BS106 polypeptide, which molecules are useful for the therapeutic treatment of breast diseases, tumors or metastases.
Abstract:
A set of contiguous and partially overlapping RNA sequences and polypeptides encoded thereby, designated as PS 112 and transcribed from prostate tissue is described. A fully sequenced clone representing a continuous sequence of PS 112 is also disclosed. These sequences are useful for the detecting, diagnosing, staging, monitoring, prognosticating, preventing or treating, or determining the predisposition of an individual to diseases and conditions of the prostate, such as prostate cancer. Also provided are antibodies which specifically bind to PS 112-encoded polypeptide or protein, and agonists or inhibitors which prevent action of the tissue-specific PS 112 polypeptide, which molecules are useful for the therapeutic treatment of prostate diseases, tumours or metastases.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to a process of isolating isoflavones/phytoestrogens from a plant protein and producing plant proteins for use in nutritional products that have reduced levels of phytoestrogens, manganese and/or nucleotides. More specifically, this invention is directed to a process of using ion exchange technology to remove phytoestrogens, manganese or nucleotides from plant proteins. Either the removed phytoestrogens or the treated plant protein may be retained for further processing. The phytoestrogens have utility as pharmaceuticals. The treated plant protein has utility in nutritional products. This invention is also directed to isoflavones prepared by the process, to plant protein products resulting from the inventive process, and to nutritional products that use the plant protein product as a source of amino nitrogen.
Abstract:
A set of contiguous and partially overlapping RNA sequences and polypeptides encoded thereby, designated as mammaglobin and transcribed from breast tissue, is described. These sequences are useful for the detecting, diagnosing, staging, monitoring, prognosticating, preventing or treating, or determining the predisposition of an individual to diseases and conditions of the breast such as breast cancer. Also provided are antibodies which specifically bind to mammaglobin-encoded polypeptide or protein, and agonists or inhibitors which prevent action of the tissue-specific mammaglobin polypeptide, which molecules are useful for the therapeutic treatment of breast diseases, tumors or metastases.
Abstract:
Provided herein are methods for detecting multiple target nucleic acid sequences in a test sample. Also provided is a hybridization platform useful for detecting multiple target sequences in a test sample. The hybridization platform comprises a solid support material having a defined pattern of capture probes immobilized thereon.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a class of substituted indole and indene iminoxy derivatives of formulae (I), (II) and (III) which inhibit leukotriene biosynthesis and are useful in the treatment of allergic and inflammatory disease states.
