Abstract: PURPOSE: A cooling device of an internal combustion engine and an insert for a water jacket are provided to effectively cool the engine oil on the surface of a cylinder block, which forms the lower part of the water jacket. CONSTITUTION: One or more inserts(1) are installed. One or more inserts are inserted into the lower part of a water jacket, which is formed in a siamese part between each cylinder bore of a cylinder block. The insert enhances the flow of the cooling water on the upper and lower parts of the water jacket. If there are a plurality of inserts, a space, in which the cooling water is re-circulated, is formed between adjacent inserts. The insert consists of a body and a bottom protrusion. The bottom protrusion is protruded from the lower end of the body and makes contact with the lower part of the water jacket. The bottom protrusion separates the lower end of the body from the lower surface of the water jacket.
