    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a novel vinyl compound suitable as a monomer for a heat-sensitive polymeric compound exhibiting phase-transition in water and utilizable as light-shielding material, temperature sensor, adsorbent, toy, interior goods, printing agent, display, separation membrane and mechanochemical material. CONSTITUTION:This is a vinyl compound of formula (R is H or CH3), e.g. N-2-isopropoxyethylacrylamide. The compound of formula I can be produced e.g. by reacting acryloyl chloride or methacryloyl chloride of formula II with 2-aminoethyl isopropyl ether and triethylamine in a solvent maintained at 0-10 deg.C. The polymeric compound derived from the novel vinyl compound is soluble in water at a low temperature and becomes water-insoluble at a high temperature.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the dyeing in excellent resist printing effect by using a resist printing material composed of a film of a heat-sensitive polyacrylamide derivative exhibiting phase-transition between hydrophilic state and hydrophobic state with temperature in the presence of water. CONSTITUTION:A solution composed mainly of a heat-sensitive polyacrylamide derivative (e.g. poly-N-isopropyl acrylamide) exhibiting reversible phase-transition between hydrophilic state and hydrophobic state with temperature is formed in the form of a film of a resist printing material. The film is cut to a prescribed pattern and pasted on a cloth wet with water and the cloth is printed over the resist film and steamed (or dip dyed) at a temperature above the intrinsic phase-transition temperature of the heat-sensitive polymer. Color is developed by this process on the cloth except for the pasted part to attain an excellent resist printing effect leaving a clear white part on the cloth. Both faces of a cloth can easily be dyed in different colors by coloring the other face of the cloth by similar method.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain efficiently a polymeric compd. having a transition temp. difference from the conventional ones and being thermoreversibly hydrophilic- hydrophobic by the radical-polymerizing of a specific vinyl compd. CONSTITUTION:N-(2-Methoxyethyl)-N-ethylacrylamide (A), which is a vinyl compd. of formula I, is obtd. by reacting acryloyl chloride, N-(2-methoxyethyl) ethylamine and triethylamine in a solvent at 0-10 deg.C. The title compd. with an MW corresponding to an intrinsic viscosity (measured in tetrahydrofuran soln. at 27 deg.C) of 0.01-6.0 and consisting of repeating units of formula II is obtd. by soln.-polymerizing the component A in the presence of 0.005-5wt.% polymn. initiator (B) (e.g., ammonium persulfate) based on the component A in an org. solvent having a concn. of the component A of 1-80wt.%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a distinct image having high contrast and high resolution by sandwiching a soln. consisting of three components; a solvent, N-substd. acrylamide polymer are polyvinyl pyrolidone or PE glycol as a high-polymer dispersion stabilizer between a pair of substrates formed with heating elements on the surfaces. CONSTITUTION:This element has the substrate 1, a polymer liquid layer 2, a transparent protective plate 3 and an IR absorption layer 8 corresponding to the heating element. The polymer liquid layer 2 is the liquid layer consisting of the soln. contg. the N-substd. acrylamide polymer, for which; for example, the polymers obtainable from monomers such as N-isopropylacrylamide or N-isopropyl methacrylamide or the copolymers thereof or the copolymers essentially consisting thereof, etc., are adequate. Polyvinyl pyrolidone, PE glycol, etc., are adequate as the high-polymer dispersion stabilizer to be used.
