    Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily obtain the title thin film useful for separating membrane, having small thickness of membrane, large permeation performance and diffusion performance by forming a soap foamlike membrane, subjecting a water-soluble polymer in the membrane to a crosslinking condition and insolubilizing the polymer. CONSTITUTION:A raw material solution consisting of 100 pts.wt. of water, especially 1-5wt.% ionic surfactant or nonionic surfactant such as polyoxyethylene phenyl ether, especially 1-5wt.% water-soluble polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol and glutaraldehyde having compatibility with the water-soluble polymer and the surfactant and preferably 2-10 pts.wt. crosslinking agent is used and a soap foam-like membrane is made by ordinary formation of soap bubble. The membrane is allowed to stand in a constant temperature bath, crosslinking of the polymer is promoted and the film is insolubilized to form a thin film having 5,000-7,000Angstrom thickness.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a dyed material rich in unconventional high-class feeling by pretreating a textile product with a metallic mordant, printing the resultant textile product with a resist size consisting of a thermally reversible high polymer and then dipping the printed textile product in a noble metal hydrosol having negative charge above the phase transition temperature essential to the afore-mentioned resist size. CONSTITUTION:A textile product, such as silk or wool, is subjected to mordanting treatment with a metallic mordant and then printed with a resist size solution consisting of a thermally reversible high polymer, i.e., a high polymer (e.g., polyN-isopropylacrylamide) capable of phase transition from a hydrophilic (low temperature) to a hydrophobic phases (high temperature) with temperature in a state coexisting with water and the resultant textile product is then dipped in a noble metal hydrosol containing noble metal colloids having negative charge above the phase transition temperature essential to the afore- mentioned resist size to dye parts other than the above-mentioned printed part. The afore-mentioned size is subsequently removed with cold water below the phase transition temperature.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a heat-reversible thickener capable of adjusting the viscosity of an aq. dispersion in a lowly viscous to unflowable state over a wide temp. range by copolymerizing specific vinyl compds. CONSTITUTION:99-40wt.% vinyl compd. of acrylamide series, a homopolymer of which, when dissolved in water, does not exhibit heat-reversibility of hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature [e.g., (meth)acrylamide], is copolymerized with 1-60wt.% vinyl compd., a homopolymer of which is insol. in water [e.g., N-n-butyl(meth)acrylamide], to give a heat-reversible thickener comprising a copolymer with heat-reversible hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature and an intrinsic viscosity [eta]of at least 0.3. 0.001-30 pts.wt. resulting thickener below its transition temp. is mixed into 100 pts.wt. aq. dispersion for paper coating, which is then heated and used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a gas separation membrane of high quality by simple operation by employing a hollow-fiber membrane of polyether sulfone, as a gas separation membrane, wherein the inside surface portion thereof has larger molecular orientation. CONSTITUTION:In a gas separation membrane for obtaining oxygen-enriched air from air, a solution of polyether sulfone as spinning stock solution and water as internal solidification water are used to spin hollow fibers by means of a double annular nozzle, wherein the concentration of polyether sulfone in the spinning stock solution is in the range of 15 to 30% and the temperature of the internal solidification water is 20 deg.C or lower, and, at the same time, draft magnification is made 1.5 or more, or 1.5 or more by dissolving inorganic salts into the spinning stock solution. In this manner, the inside surface portion of hollow fiber is caused to have larger molecular orientation as compared to the outer surface portion thereof. Consequently, a gas separation membrane of high quality can be easily produced by dry-wet type spinning method.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled novel compound constituted of specific recurring unit, having specific molecular weight, reversibly soluble in water in the lower temperature region, becoming insoluble in water in the higher temperature region, useful as a light-shielding substance for greenhouse etc., thermosensor, etc., by radical polymerization of a specific vinyl compound. CONSTITUTION:N-1-methoxymethylpropyl (meth)acrylamide of formula I (R is H or methyl) is brought to radical polymerization through e.g. solution polymerization or bulk polymerization process, e.g. using an initiator to obtain the objective polymeric compound constituted of recurring unit of formula II having such molecular weight as to correspond to 0.01-6.0 for the intrinsic viscosity [eta]at 27 deg.C in the form of THF solution. Said starting material of the formula I is a new material, being prepared, e.g., by reaction, in a solvent at 0-10 deg.C, between (meth)acrylic chloride, 2-amino-1-methoxybutane and triethylamine.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a reversible hydrophilic - hydrophobic polymer which is useful for light screens, temperature sensors, adsorbents, etc., by the radical polymerization of a specified vinyl compound. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl compound of formula I, i.e. 8-acryloyl-1,4-dioxa-8- azaspiro[4,5] decane, is submitted to radical polymerization to give the title polymer of formula II. This polymer is soluble in water at a low temperature zone and becomes insoluble in water in a high temperature zone reversibly. Unlike the thermally reversible polyacrylamide heretofore known, the present polymer has a transition temperature and can be utilized for light screens, temperature sensors, adsorbents, toys, interior goods, textile printing material, display equipment, separative membrane and mechanochemical materials. The compound of formula I can be obtained by reacting acryloyl chloride, 1,4- dioxa-8-azaspiro[4,5] decane and triethylamine in a solvent preferably at 0-10 deg.C (i.e. the reaction of formula III).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title thermoreversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic compound having excellent strength and a high MW and being insolubilized in water when warmed, by radical-polymerizing N-isopropylacrylamide at a specified temperature in an alkyl acetate solvent. CONSTITUTION:N-Isopropylacrylamide is dissolved in an alkyl acetate solvent (e.g., ethyl acetate) of the formula (wherein n is 2-6) to form a solution of a concentration of 1-80wt% and radical-polymerized at 0-40 deg.C, preferably, 20-30 deg.C in the presence of, optionally, 0.001-5wt%, based on the vinyl compound, polymerization initiator (e.g., azobisisobutylnitrile) to give the title compound which is poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) of an intrinsic viscosity >=1.00 (in tetrahydrofuran at 27 deg.C). This compound is a thermoreversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer which is insolubilized in water when warmed and is useful for light-screening bodies, temperature sensors, adsorbents, toys, interiors, separative membranes, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance durability and stability by preparing a hydrophilic separating membrane comprising graft polymerization of hydrophilic monomer over the surface of porous high-molecular membrane base, passing the mixed solution of water and alcohol through the said membrane and permeating water preferentially. CONSTITUTION:The graft polymerization is carried out by adding hydrophilic monomer such as acrylamide water solution, after plasma treatment, on the surface of porous high-molecular membrane such as porous polypropylene. The membrane thus prepared is washed with distilled water repeatedly to remove the unreacted monomer, homopolymer, etc., and a hydrophilic membrane is produced. The water-ethanol mixed solution is passed through the hydrophilic separating membrane thus produced, and water is permeated preferentially. Pervaporation is suitable for carrying out the said separation. Process of separation, durable and stabilized, is thus achieved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled thermoreversible polymer which is soluble in water at low temperatures while insoluble in water at high temperatures and is suitable for temperature sensors, light-screening bodies, etc., by radical- polymerizing N-ethoxyethyl(meth)acrylamide. CONSTITUTION:The purpose thermoreversibly hydrophilic acid hydrophobic polymer of formula II (wherein n>=2) is obtained by radical-polymerizing N- ethoxyethyl(meth)acrylamide of formula I (wherein R1 is H or methyl). As a process for polymerizing this compound, a solution polymerization process is usually preferable, and one comprising dissolving the compound of formula I in a solvent (e.g., benzene) and irradiating the solution with a radiation or heating it in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator can be adopted, for example. The compound of formula I can be produced by, for example, reacting (meth)acryloyl chloride with 2-ethoxyethylamine and triethylamine in benzene.
