    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:N-Methyl-N-2-(1,3-dioxolan-2-yl)ethylacrylamide expressed by formula I. USE:A raw material monomer for heat-sensitive polymer compounds, utilizable as light shielding substances, temperature sensors, adsorbents, toys, interiors, printing agents, displays, separation membranes and mechanochemical materials and capable of causing phase transition in water and alcoholic solvents. PREPARATION:Acryloyl chloride expressed by formula II is reacted with N- methyl-2-aminoethyl-1,3-dioxolane expressed by formula III and triethylamine in a solvent at 0-10 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject new heat-sensitive high polymer compound having specific intrinsic viscosity, capable of phase transfer in water or alcohol solvent and used for temperature sensor, etc., by subjecting a specific acrylic amide derivative having 1,3-dioxolane ring to radical polymerization. CONSTITUTION:N-Methyl-N-2-(1,3-dioxolane-2-yl)ethylacryl amide prepared by reacting N-methyl-2-aminoethyl-1,3-dioxolane with acrylic acid chloride in the presence of triethylamine in benzene and expressed by formula I is polymerized in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator such as azobisisobutyronitrile (AIMN) in a solvent such as benzene while heating to provide the aimed heat sensitive high polymer compound consisting of recurring units expressed by formula II and having molecular weight in which intrinsic viscosity [eta] at 27 deg.C in an aqueous solution corresponds to 0.01-6.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce water vapor absorption by adding starch to a saturated aqueous solution of urea, heating, uniformly dissolving, drying and solidifying. CONSTITUTION:A saturated aqueous solution having dissolved 100 pts.wt. urea is heated to >=50 deg.C, preferably 70-80 deg.C, >=5 pts.wt. starch is blended therewith and uniformly dissolved in the aqueous solution, allowed to stand to room temperature, air-dried or allowed to stand in a dryer and dried, solidified in a crystallized state of urea as needle-like crystal to give a urea starch complex. The complex is made into a fertilizer to gradually release urea at higher speed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a new thermally reversible hydrophilic-hydrophobic polymer compd. which is reversibly water-soluble at a low temp. range and water- insoluble at a higher temp. range and have a transition temp. different from conventional products by radical-polymerizing N-(2-methoxyethyl)N-n- propylacrylamide. CONSTITUTION:This thermally reversible hydrophilic-hydrophobic polymer compd. consists of a repeating units of formula I and has an MW corresponding to an intrinsic viscosity [eta] of a tetrahydrofulan soln. at 27 deg.C of 0.01-6.0. This polymer compd. is obtd. by radical-polymerizing a vinyl compd. of formula II. In addition, this polymer compd. is reversibly soluble in water at a lower temp. range and insoluble in water at a higher temp. range. The transition temp. changes in accordance with polymn. condition and is usually in the range of about 11-14 deg.C. This polymer compd. can be used as a light insulating body, a temp. sensor, an adsorbent, a toy, an interior, a display, etc.

The polymer is reversibly dissolved in water in a low-temperature range, becomes water-insoluble in a high- temperature range and is useful as a light screening material, temperature sensor, adsorbent, toy, interior, printing auxiliary and display. PREPARATION:(Meth)acrylic acid chloride is reacted with methoxyethoxypropylamine and triethylamine in a solvent such as benzene at 0-10 deg.C to give a compound shown by the formula. The vinyl compound of this invention, N-methoxyethoxypropylacrylamide and N- methoxyethoxypropylmethacrylamide are colorless liquid, soluble in solvents such as water, methyl alcohol, acetone and THF and insoluble in n-hexane and n-heptane.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain fine gamma-iron oxide particles having superior dispersibility in water and various org. solvents by uniformly dispersing dehydrated fine magnetite particles in a nonaqueous solvent and oxidizing them by heating at a specified temp. or above. CONSTITUTION:Fine magnetite particles are dehydrated by washing with a hydrophilic solvent such as acetone or alcohol. Methanol, ethanol or propanol is preferably used as the alcohol. The dehydrated fine magnetite particles are uniformly dispersed in a nonaqueous solvent such as decyl alcohol, kerosene or silicone oil and the resulting dispersion is heat treated at >=100 deg.C.
