Abstract: El ácido acrílico o el ácido metacrílico se purifica mediante (a) sometiendo una mezcla que comprende el ácido acrílico o el ácido metacrílico a un proceso de separacion definido con precision, esencialmente en ausencia de un solvente orgánico, con la composicion de la fase en la cual se acumula el ácido acrílico o el ácido metacrílico permaneciendo esencialmente constante cuando cambia la composicion de las otras fases que participan en la transferencia de masa, extrayendo esta fase, y (b) sometiendo por lo menos una parte de la fase restante de la etapa (a) a un proceso de separacion definido con menor precision, y (c) alimentar una de las fases formadas en la etapa (b) al proceso de separacion definido con precision en la etapa (a). Además, la invencion proporciona un proceso para preparar ácido acrílico o ácido metacrílico que incluye el proceso de purificacion mencionado anteriormente.

Abstract: Acrylic acid or methacrylic acid is purified by (a) subjecting a mixture comprising the acrylic acid or methacrylic acid to a sharply defined separation process essentially in the absence of an organic solvent, with the composition of the phase in which the acrylic acid or methacrylic acid accumulates remaining essentially constant when the composition of the other phases participating in the mass transfer changes, then taking off this phase and (b) subjecting at least a part of the remaining phase from stage(a) to a less sharply defined separation process and (c) feeding one of the phases formed in stage (b) to the sharply defined separation process in stage (a). In addition, the invention provides a process for preparing acrylic acid or methacrylic acid which includes the abovementioned purification process.

Abstract: Purification of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid comprises crystallization to form an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid enriched product crystallizate and a mother liquor, distillation of at least a portion of the mother liquor to form a distillation residue that is at least partially drawn off and a head product and crystallization of at least a portion of the head product to form a crystallizate that is recycled. A process for the purification of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid by crystallization and distillation comprises: (A) crystallization of an acrylic or methacrylic acid containing mixture by formation of an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid enriched product crystallizate and a mother liquor; (B) distillation of at least a portion of the mother liquor to form a distillation residue that is at least partially drawn off and a head product; (C) crystallization of at least a portion of the head product to form a crystallization residue that is drawn off and a crystallizate; and (D) recycling of the crystallizate from step (C) to step (A).

Abstract: A process for purifying (meth)acrylic acid by phase separation techniques comprises the following steps: (a) a mixture containing (meth)acrylic acid is separated into distinct phases in the presence of an organic solvent, with the composition of the (meth)acrylic acid-rich phase remaining essentially unchanged, and this acid-rich phase is separated; (b) the remaining phase from step (a) is separated into indistinct phases; and (c) one of the phases from step (b) is returned to step (a). Also claimed is preparation of (meth)acrylic acid. Preferably in step (c) the acid-rich phase is returned to step (a). 1-100 (100) wt.% of the phase remaining from step (a) is used in step (b). Pure end product is added to steps (a) and (b). Step (a) involves crystallisation, freezing or sublimation, preferably static and/or dynamic crystallisation, and most preferably a combined static and dynamic crystallisation in which the residue from the dynamic crystallisation is added to the static crystallisation step and the crystallised product from the static crystallisation is returned to the dynamic crystallisation.
