Date Jul. 3, 1997A microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic-mechanical properties and based on an isocyanate component consisting essentially of 4,4'-MDI and also further customary constituents has, after heating at from 100 to 120 DEG C. for from 8 to 24 hours, a melting range of from 130 DEG C. as the minimum lower limit to 230 DEG C. as a minimum upper limit, measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at a heating rate of 20 DEG C./min, and a urea content of from 14 to 18% by weight. A process is also provided for preparing such a microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic mechanical properties. The microcellular PU elastomers can be used for producing damping elements.

Abstract: Production of microcellular polyurethane elastomers is claimed by reacting (A) high mol. polyhydroxy compounds and optionally (B) low. mol. chain extenders and/or crosslinkers with (C) 3,3'-dimethoxy-4,4'- diisocyanato-diphenyl in presence or absence of (D) catalysts, foaming agents etc.. Preferably the polyhydroxy component (A) is of functionality 2-3 and mol. wt. 500-6,000 and is especially a difunctional polyester polyol, OH-containing polycarbonate or polyoxybutylene glycol of mol. wt. 800-3,500 while the chain extender is an alkane diol, dialkylene glycol or polyoxyalkylene glycol of mol. wt. up to 800 and the crosslinker is also of mol. wt. up to 800 and is a tri-or tetra-hydric alcohol or polyoxyalkylene polyol of functionality 3-4. Preparation of the elastomer is by: (1) first preparing a prepolymer of NCO content 2-20 wt.% by reacting (C) with (A) and optionally (B) and then reacting this prepolymer with water and optionally also (B); or (2) first reacting (C) with part of (A) and optionally also (B) and then reacting the prepolymer obtained with a mixture of water, the remainder of (A) and optionally also (B).

Date Jul. 3, 1997A microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic mechanical properties and based on an isocyanate component consisting essentially of 4,4'-MDI and further customary constituents has a physicochemical structure which, in the gel permeation chromatograph (GPC) of a solution of the microcellular polyurethane elastomer prepared at 90 DEG C. in N,N-dimethylformamide containing 1 percent of di-n-butylamine measured against polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as standard, displays a signal occurring in addition to low molecular weight main signal and comprising one or more peaks at an (apparent) molar mass of greater than 250,000 g/mol which becomes smaller or disappears on addition of lithium chloride to this solution, and a urea content of from 14 to 18% by weight. A process is also provided for preparing such a microcellular PU elastomer having improved dynamic mechanical properties. The microcellular PU elastomers can be used for producing damping elements.

Abstract: Compact and preferably cellular polyurethane elastomers are produced by reactinga) polyhydroxyl compounds having molecular weights of from 800 to 6000 and, if desired,b) chain extenders and/or crosslinkers having molecular weights of up to 800 [lacuna]c) naphthylene 1,5-diisocyanate and at least one additional aromatic diisocyanate selected from the group consisting of tolylene diisocyanate, diphenylmethane diisocyanate, 3,3'-dimethylbiphenyl diisocyanate, 1,2-diphenylethane diisocyanate and phenylene diisocyanate, and/or aliphatic diisocyanate having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms and/or cycloaliphatic diisocyanate having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, where the formative components (a), (c) and, if used, (b) are preferably reacted by the prepolymer method,in the presence or absence ofd) catalysts,e) blowing agents andf) additives. Isocyanate prepolymers suitable for this purpose are also described.

Abstract: Los elastomeros de poliuretano compactos y de preferencia celulares se producen haciendo reaccionar a) compuestos de polihidroxilo que tienen pesos moleculares de 800 a 6000 y, si se desea, b) alargadores de cadena y/o agentes de reticulacion que tienen pesos moleculares hasta de 800 (lacuna) c) el 1,5-diisocianato de naftileno y por lo menos un diisocianato aromático adicional que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de diisocianato de tolileno, diisocianato de difenilmetano, diisocianato de 3,3'-dimetilbifenilo, diisocianato de 1,2-difeniletano y diisocianato de fenileno, y/o el diisocianato alifático que tiene de 4 a 12 átomos de carbono y/o el diisocianato cicloalifático que tiene de 6 a 18 átomos de carbono, en donde, en donde los componentes formadores (a), (c) y, si se usa, (b) de preferencia se hacen reaccionar mediante el método prepolimérico, en presencia o ausencia de d) catalizadores, e) agentes hinchadores, y f) aditivos. Se describen asimismo los prepolímeros de isocianato apropiados para este objeto.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing microcellular polyurethane elastomers by reacting: (a) high-molecular polyhydroxyl compounds, optionally (b) low-molecular chain-lengthening and/or cross-linking agents with (c) 3,3'-dimethoxy-4,4'-diisocyanato-diphenyl and/or 4,4'-stilbene-diisocyanate in the presence or absence of (d) catalysts; (e) foaming agents; and (f) additives. Also disclosed are isocyanate prepolymers suitable for preparing these elastomers.
