Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of optionally alkyl-substituted THF. The above is obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of C4-dicarboxylic acids and/or derivatives thereof, in the gas phase, using a catalyst containing 20 wt. %, preferably >30 wt %, in particular 35 to 90 wt. % of an oxidic support with acidic centres, whereby the method is carried out with a hot spot temperature of 240 to 280 DEG C and a catalytic loading of 0.01 to 1.0, preferably 0.02 to 1, in particular 0.05 to 0.5 kg reactant/l catalyst.hour.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing 1,4-butanediol, tetrahydrofuran and .gamma.-butyrolactone by oxidation of butane to a product flow containing maleic anhydride, absorption of maleic anhydride from the product flow with a high-boiling alcohol, which yields a liquid absorption product containing maleic acid half- and diesters and high-boiling alcohol, post-esterification of the liquid absorption product and subsequent hydrogenation of the post-esterified product in the liquid phase. The highboiling alcohol is a polyvalent alcohol with a boiling point at normal pressure of more than 233 ~C and the post-esterified product has an acid value of less than 30 mg KOH/g and a water content of less than 1 weight %.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for separating maleic anhydride from the maleic anhydride-containing reactor waste gases resulting from maleic anhydride production by hydrocarbon oxidation. According to said method the gas stream is placed into contact with a high-boiling inert absorption agent for maleic anhydride and maleic anhydride is separated from the resulting liquid absorbate phase by steam stripping. An alcohol is used as desorption agent and maleic anhydride at least partly reacts with the alcohol to yield an ester.
