Abstract: A method of forming a semiconductor thin film based on crystallizing a thin film crystal from an amorphous thin film by solid phase growth. A plurality of small regions which are preferentially made nuclei generation points are formed at predetermined positions in the amorphous thin film. Solid phase growth from single nuclei formed in the small regions is preferentially effected by heating to form a crystalline semiconductor thin film in which the grain boundary positions are adjusted to the desired positions. This crystalline semiconductor thin film is subjected to a heat treatment to reduce defects in crystal grains.

Abstract: A photoelectric converter comprising a photoelectric conversion unit which includes a pair of main electrodes, spaced by a photoreception area over a semiconductor layer, and an auxiliary electrode. It also includes a storage capacitor for storing electric charges flowing through the photoelectric conversion unit, a transfer transistor for transferring the charges stored in the capacitor, a discharge transistor for discharging the charges stored in the storage capacitor, and dividing device for dividing a switching voltage applied to the control electrode of the discharge transistor to apply a divided voltage to the auxiliary electrode.

The group of micro-shutters are arranged in a matrix comprising a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns. The group of micro-shutters are formed by a substrate having thereon a plurality of segment electrodes each forming a shutter and connected to a drain of a thin film transistor, another substrate having thereon a common electrode, and a liquid crystal interposed between the substrates. The image forming apparatus further comprises means for applying a scanning signal to the gate of the thin film transistor and applying an electric signal corresponding to image information in synchronism with the scanning signal.

Abstract: An electron source emits electrons as a function of input signals. The electron source comprises a substrate, a matrix of wires having m row wires and n column wires laid on the substrate with an insulator layer interposed therebetween, and a plurality of surface-conduction electron-emitting devices each having a pair of electrodes and a thin film including an electron emitting region and arranged between the electrodes. The electron-emitting devices are so arranged as to form a matrix with the electrodes connected to the respective row and column wires. The electron source further comprises selection means for selecting a row of the plurality of surface-conduction electron-emitting devices, and modulation means for generating modulation signals according to input signals and applying them to the surface-conduction electron-emitting devices selected by the selection means.
