Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the light data pulse train detecting method which can detect an ultrahigh speed light data pulse train in real time without being limited by an electric response speed. CONSTITUTION:Reference light pulses 1 and the light data pulse train 2 are made into sheet beams 6 and 7 through a collimator lens 3 and separated into an upper and a lower part in an (x)-axial direction. The light data pulse train is reflected by brazed grating 5, but the wave fronts slant because of a difference in optical path length to cause time delay at both ends of the sheet beams. The optical path lengths of the reference pulses 6 and light data pulse train 7 are adjusted to match the wave fronts and they are made incident on a nonlinear optical medium 9 from a linear lens 8. Remarkable nonlinear optical effect is generated at the position where the individual wave fronts of both the light pulses are made incident on the medium 9 at the same time and output light affected by the nonlinear optical effect is detected as a space pattern by a photodetector array 10. As a result of the nonlinear optical effect, the generation position and modulation position of the output light correspond to time intervals of the individual pulses of time series data pulses, so the time series signal can be detected as the data pattern of the space train.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve which can be easily reduced in size by simplifying structure and prevents degradation even when a corrosive fluid flows therethrough, and a fuel cell using the same. SOLUTION: The valve has a fluid inlet 1, a fluid outlet 2, a flow path 29 communicating the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet, a valve element 4 provided in the flow path. The valve includes a diaphragm 3 which is disposed so as to separate the inside from the outside of the flow path 29 and which is to be deformed by the difference in pressure between the inside and the outside of the flow path, and an actuator 7 which is provided for the diaphragm and made of at least one kind selected from a shape-memory alloy for deforming the diaphragm, a thermal expansion material, and an electromagnet. The valve 3 is connected to the valve element 4 through a valve shaft 5, and opens and closes when deformation of the diaphragm displaces the valve element. The fuel cell uses the valve. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a good image that keeps an initial characteristic for a long time and has high uniformity by setting thermal expansion coefficient of a substrate less than a specific value, where electron emitting elements having conductive films are faced to each other with an interval. SOLUTION: As a substrate 1, a substrate where thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass or the like is low and is less than 60×10-7/ deg.C is used. After cleaning the substrate 1, element electrodes 2 and element electrodes 3 are formed. Wiring 6 is formed on the substrate 1 having the element electrodes 2 and the element electrodes 3, and an inter-layer insulating layer 8 is formed at a position crossing wiring 7. The wiring 7 is formed so as to cross on the inter-layer insulating layer 8 formed on the wiring 6. A conductive thin film 4 is formed between the element electrode 2 and the element electrode 3. Voltage is applied between the wiring 6 and the wiring 7, and a clearance (an electron emitting portion) 5 with changed structure is formed in a portion of the conductive thin film 4. Since the substrate having a low thermal expansion coefficient is used, heat generation during voltage impression on electron emitting elements is restrained from causing change of form near a micro interval.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration due to heat and the like of a substrate and to keep satisfactory image quality for a long period by arranging a number of electron emissive elements respectively composed of a pair of elemental electrodes and an electron emissive portion, on a base, and specifying the amount of the water included in the base to be below a predetermined value. SOLUTION: An electron source substrate is formed by a base 1, the element electrodes 2, 3, a conductive thin film 4, a clearance portion 5 and a interlayer insulation layer 8. The water content in the base 1 is preferably below 50 ppm, whereby discharging of water can be reduced, and the deterioration of an electron emissive element can be prevented. The water includes not only the molecular water but the absorbed water, the occluded water and the structural water such as an OH group and the like taken in a state of a silanol group. The water content means the weight ratio of the water molecule (H2O) and OH group with respect to the total composition of the base 1. The base 1 manufactured through a process for heating the base in vacuum for a long time for removing water, or removing or reducing the water content in glass in melting, is used.
