    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently convert plastics into oil by melting the plastics followed by bringing them into contact with a solid acid catalyst to recover plastic stocks. SOLUTION: Plastics including polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene and polystyrene are melted at >=300 deg.C and then brought into contact with a solid acid catalyst such as silica-alumina catalyst like acid clay or active clay at 400-500 deg.C for 0.1min to 5h, thus converting the plastics into oil.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent lowering of catalytic activity and efficiently liquefy a mixed plastic by pyrolyzing a mixed plastic containing polyolefin, etc., under specific conditions. SOLUTION: A mixed plastic containing a polyolefin, a polystyrene and/or a nitrogen-containing plastic is introduced into a first pyrolyzing device 2a and heat-treated at 250-500 deg.C to gasify polystyrene and/or a nitrogen-containing plastic and the resultant gas component is separated by gas separators 3a and 3b and a melted material from which the gas component is separated is pyrolyzed in a second pyrolyzing device 2b in the presence of a catalyst such as a silica-alumina-based solid acid catalyst at 350-550 deg.C in a second pyrolyzing device 2b to carry out liquefication of the mixed plastic.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a specified polycarbonate in good yields by reacting a specified polyol with a specified carbonate compound by heating in the presence of a basic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polyol (1) of the formula: R (OH)m (wherein R is a 4-600C aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may be interrupted by an ether group; and m is an integer of 2-12) is reacted with a carbonate compound of the formula: R OCOOR [wherein R is 1-20C alkyl, the boiling point of R OH is lower than that of the polyol (1)] in an amount to give a molar ratio to [mX(1)] in the range of 2-50 by heating in the presence of a basic catalyst to a conversion of 95% or above while the formed alcohol is distilled off from the reaction system. After the basic catalyst is removed from the reaction mixture, the above carbonate compound is distilled off from the reaction system to leave a polycarbonate compound of the formula: R (OCOO-R )m (wherein R , R and m are as defined above).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an aromatic polycarbonate in a short time in high yield by feeding dimethyl carbonate to an aromatic diol compound at a specific ratio and carrying out reaction at a specific temperature under increased pressure while distilling off the methanol formed. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of (A) 1mol of an aromatic diol compound (e.g. bisphenol A) and (B) 1X10 to 2X10 mol of a catalyst (e.g. an alkyl) is fed with (C) dimethyl carbonate at the molar ratio C/A=0.5 to 20 to synthesize a polymer. This polymer is then put to pressurized treatment under a pressure of 0.5 to 100kg/cm at 180 to 280 deg.C while distilling off the methanol formed, thus obtaining the objective aromatic polycarbonate.
