    Abstract: A SIMM socket with a metal latch (120) for retaining a SIMM therein is provided. The socket includes a housing (160) having a SIMM receiving slot (166) and a plurality of terminals (30) with contact beams extending into the slot. The SIMM is inserted into the slot in a first angular alignment with minimal insertion forces, and is rotted into a second alignment for achieving high quality electrical connection with the contact beams of the respective terminals. A metal latch (120) is provided for releasably retaining the SIMM in the preferred angular alignment within the socket. The latch is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metallic material and includes a housing engaging portion (122) mounted around a mounting post (174) of the housing and a deflectable SIMM engaging portion (130). The housing includes walls for controlling the types and ranges of deflection that are permitted for the SIMM engaging portion.

    Abstract: A connector assembly is provided with opposing and interengageable first and second connector components. Each of the two components has internal cavities that contain terminal assemblies of either plug or receptacle structure and may further include either a plurality of power terminals or differential signal terminals. The terminals have contact portions, tail portions and interconnecting portions that are partially encapsulated by an insulative outer support frames. The shell forms a wafer and two such wafers are combined together to form a terminal assembly.     Abstract: A dielectric housing has a board mounting face adapted to be positioned adjacent the printed circuit board, a card receiving face having a card slot extending along a longitudinal axis of said housing and terminal-receiving passages adjacent the slot, the housing being unitarily moulded of plastics material. Standoffs project from the board mounting face of the housing a first predetermined distance away from the board mounting face to space the housing from the board upon placement. Terminals are received in the passages, each terminal including a contact beam section in the housing, a tail section projecting from the housing and a retention section between for engaging a portion of the housing to retain the terminal. Retention bosses are moulded integrally with the housing in alignment with the passages and with the passages extending through the bosses. The retention bosses project from the board mounting face of the housing a second predetermined distance away from the mounting face, the second predetermined distance being less than the first predetermined distance. The terminals are stamped and formed of sheet metal material with at least portions of the retention sections of the terminals being located in the passages within the bosses.

    Abstract: An elongate strip of electrical terminals adapted to be inserted into a row of terminal-receiving passages in connector housing is disclosed. The strip includes a series of terminals joined by a mid-carrier strip and includes alternating first and second terminals. The terminals have base portions with retention sections adapted to be inserted into the terminal-receiving passages. Spring arms having contact portions extend from first ends of the base portions. Tail portions extend from second, opposite ends of the base portions. The mid-carrier Strip joins the alternating first and second terminals at the base portions of the first terminals and at the spring arm of the second terminals. A second carrier strip joins the tips of the tail portions of only the first terminals so that the adjacent ends of the second terminals can be formed independent of the first terminals.

    Abstract: A card edge connector assembly includes a printed circuit card (10) having an edge (12) and a plurality of first conductive pads (20) arranged in a pattern on one side of the card near the edge, and a plurality of second conductive pads (22) arranged in a pattern on the opposite side of the card spaced inwardly of the edge and the first conductive pads. An elongated housing (24) is provided with a card receiving slot (25) for receiving the edge of the printed circuit card. A plurality of pairs of contact elements (32a, 32b) are mounted in the housing along the length of the slot. Each pair of contact elements includes a short contact element having a spring contact portion (78) for engaging one of the first conductive pads, and a long contact element having a spring contact portion for engaging one of the second conductive pads. The contact portions of each pair of contact elements are spatially overlapped each other in a direction transversely of the slot to increase the deflection capabilities of the contact elements.
