Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the luminous efficacy, namely, internal quantum efficiency of a light emitting layer by setting the constricting area of a current constricting layer so that the density of a current injected into the light emitting layer may correspond to an area on the higher voltage side of the position at which the ideal factor of a semiconductor light emitting device becomes the minimum value. SOLUTION: In a semiconductor light emitting device, the constricting area of a current constricting layer 9 is set so that the density of a current injected into a light emitting layer may correspond to an area on the higher voltage side of the position at which the ideal factor (n) of the element becomes the minimum value (n=1) in the ideal factor (n) (axis of ordinate) versus voltage (axis of abscissa) characteristic of the element. Therefore, the density of the current injected into the light emitting layer is increased and nonluminous recoupling levels which are remarkable in a low injected-current area are filled up with injected carriers, and then, the injected carriers are recoupled at band ends. When the light emitting device is constituted in such a structure, the internal quantum efficiency of the light emitting layer can be improved even when nonluminous recoupling concentrations in crystals are not lowered.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce a current consumption by turning off the power source of a photodetecting circuit which operates the signal processing of the output from a photodiode if unnecessary. CONSTITUTION:A discriminating means 17 of a photodetecting circuit 11 discriminates whether or not an identification code transmitted from an outside controller is coincident with the identification code of its own stored in a storage means 14. When the means 17 judges that the identification code transmitted from the outside controller is coincident with the identification code of its own, the power source of the photodetecting circuit 11 is turned on, and the output through a communication means 18 to the outside controller is operated. Therefore, the power source of the photodetecting circuit 11 can be turned off if unnecessary. Thus, the current consumption can be reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To securely reproduce a signal by demodulating transmission information out of a transmission signal based on the output of a discriminating means to discriminate the presence and absence of a carrier signal. CONSTITUTION:A receiver 25 is constituted by including a photodetector, a comparator 4, a synchronizing detector 7 to be a period detecting means, a counter 8 and a waveform shaping device 10 to be the discriminating means and a demodulating means. Namely, the period of the carrier signal of a received signal is detected by the synchronizing detector 7, the presence and absence of the carrier signal is detected for this output by the waveform shaping device 10 and the transmission information are reproduced. Thus, since the receiver 25 detects the period of the carrier signal, it is composed of a digital circuit. Thus, the difference of performance is eliminated between products and the transmission information can be securely reproduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the intrusion of disturbance light to a photodetector and the malfunction of the photodetector while there is no moving object between a light emitting element and the photodetector by providing a discrimination circuit and discriminating the waveform of the photodetection signal of the photodetector. CONSTITUTION:An oscillation circuit 11 and a light emitting element driving circuit 12 which outputs the photodetection signal (a) are provided. The light subjected to the pulse modulation of the same waveform as the waveform of the light emission signal (a) is outputted from the light emitting element 13. The output light is turned on the off by the object passing between the element 13 and the photodetector 14. The output signal (d) from an amplifier circuit 15 which amplifies the detection signal of the photodetector 14 is processed by the discrimination circuit 16 and the signal (e) having no influence of the disturbance light is outputted therefrom when the disturbance light (c) is made incident on the photodetector 14. The output signal of the circuit 15 at the discrimination point at which the timing signal falls is discriminated in the circuit 16 by using the timing signal which is synchronized with the timing of the signal (a) and exists at every emission of light and non-emission of light.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To execute fine and coarse adjustment for the movement of a cursor properly by allowing a user to set up the ratio of the moving variable of the cursor to that of a mouse only by the combining operation of selecting switches. CONSTITUTION:In case of the inner processing of the mouse, pulse signals of A and B phases are generated from the mouse. The A-phase pulse and the B-phase pulse are applied to an FF-F3 and FFs-F4, F5 respectively and the moving variable and moving direction of the X direction are outputted from terminals C, B respectively. The moving variable and moving direction outputs of the Y direction are also constituted similarly and the moving direction of the Y direction is outputted from the terminal B. Outputs of the 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 frequency of the A-phase pulse are applied from terminals QA, QB, QC of a counter CX to terminals C3-C0 of a multiplexer MPX1. An X direction moving variable output from the MPX1 selects and outputs the frequency-divided outputs of the terminals C0-C3 in the alternative way by the combination status of the outputs S, T of the FFs-F1, F2 for detecting the setting status of switches SW1-SW3. The Y direction moving variable output also executes similar operation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the reliability in detecting an original size by providing plural light emitting elements which exist below a transparent plate for placing an original and irradiate the transparent plate according to the size to be detected of the original and photodetectors which receive the light reflected from an original cover during closing. CONSTITUTION:An original platen 1 consisting of a transparent plate and an original cover 2 having a reflecting surface 4 are so constituted that the light emitted from light emitting elements 5 and reflected by the surface 4 in the mid- way of closing the cover 2 is condensed onto a photodetector 6. When an original 8 is placed on said plate here, the light irradiated from the element 5 is scattered by the original 8 and spreads as shown by dotted lines thus the light incident to the photodetector 6 at the point B is limited. The positions where the element 5 and the photodetector 6 are installed is selected like, for example, 51-54 for the light emitting element and 61-65 for the photodetector in accordance with the original size then the presence or absence of the original and the size thereof are detected by finding the combination of the output condition from the photodetectors 61-65. The reliability in the direction is consequently improved.

An error amplifier 8 inputs the signal F and the signal E, and outputs the signal E when the signal F is 0, and an error signal G which is negative when the signal E is negative and positive when the signal E is positive. The amplifier 8 outputs the positive signal G only when the signal E is positive in case that the signal F is positive, and the negative signal G only when the signal E is negative in case that the signal F is negative.
