Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve thermal resistance by forming an anion exchanger with a polymonovinyl-aromatic compound which is cross linked and made insoluble and further has a functional group represented by a specific formula at the end of a side chain of its benzene nucleus. CONSTITUTION:An anion exchanger is formed with a polymonovinyl-aromatic compound which is cross linked and made insoluble and has a functional group represented by a formula I (A; a pair of anions, which are generally OH , halogen anion, BF4 , PCl6 , etc.,) at the end of a side chain of its benzene nucleus. The anion exchanger may take a shape of a particle-, powder-, or film-like resin, or a fibrous shape of a long filament, short filament, string, knit or cloth; however, a fibrous shape is preferable with respect to the size of surface area and the degree of freedom in a shape design.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain easily and economically the title fiber which is suitable for use in air and liquid filters, has excellent strength, ion exchange rate (adsorptivity) and heat resistance and is of high quality, by treating a specified fibrous molding with gaseous sulfuric anhydride. CONSTITUTION:A fibrous molding (A) having a fineness of 0.1-500de (e.g., multi-core sea-island type), mainly composed of a major proportion of a poly (arom. monovinyl compd.) composed of a (co)polymer of (alpha-methyl)styrene, vinyltoluene, vinylnaphthalene, p-chlorostyrene, etc., a graft copolymer thereof or a blend thereof and a minor proportion of a reinforcing polymer (e.g., a polyester, a polyamide, a poly-alpha-olefin) is sulfonated and simultaneously crosslinked in an atmosphere contg. 0.1-90% gaseous sulfuric anhydride (B) to obtain the title fiber having an introduced sulfo group content of 0.1-10meq/g of dry molding and a degree of hydration of 0.1-10 which is a measure of a degree of crosslinking.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To comprehensively grasp oxidation power of atoms in terms of a speed by bringing a polymer compound in touch with original water and evaluating oxidation power of atoms from a characteristic change of the polymer compound. SOLUTION: A preferable polymer compound is an organic polymer compound, particularly, polyacrylonitrile-, polysulfone-based compound an extension, the strength of which can be grasped in a tensile test before and after an oxidation reaction with an oxidizing agent, or the characteristic change of which can be grasped in a comparison evaluation based on a molecular weight or by the like manner. A form of the polymer compound is preferably a separation membrane, more particularly, an inverse osmotic membrane, an ultrafilter membrane. Especially an asymmetric inverse osmotic membrane with an ultrathin layer sharply reacts to oxidizing substances and changes permeation performance, and therefore enables quick and sure evaluation. Although it is a general contact process to dip the polymer compound simply in an original water, the original water is actually passed through the polymer compound if the polymer compound is the separation membrane. This is more preferred because an area of contact between the original water and a hollow fiber membrane is increased and the concentration of the oxidizing substance or the like in the vicinity of the membrane surface is constant at all times.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent for selectively, simply and efficiently adsorbing and removing harmful material such as an organic halogen compound slightly contained in water by using a polymer composition having a specific component of hydrogen bonding strength of three dimensional solubility parameter. CONSTITUTION:The polymer composition such as polysulfone, polyacrylonitrile 1-5 (cal cm ), preferably 1.5-4.5, more preferably 2.0-4.5 in component deltah of hydrogen bonding strength of three dimensional solubility parameter is used. The polymer composition has fine porous form having many numbers of narrow pores from equal to below several mum which increase adsorbing quantity due to the increase of adsorption surface area. The adsorbing material obtained by this manner extremely easily adsorbs harmful materials such as trihalomethane.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably and continuously obtain ultra-pure water for a long time by an electric deionizing method using a fibrous ion exchanger. CONSTITUTION:High purity water is continuously obtd. by an electric deionizing method using a fibrous ion exchanger. The ion exchanger is in a conjugate fiber state consisting of an ion exchanging polymer and a reinforcing polymer. It is preferable that the ion exchange polymer is a polystyrene-type, and the reinforcing polymer is polyethylene. Further, it is preferable that the fibrous ion exchanger is a sheet-type one.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for efficiently separating a mixture of electrically different ion exchange fibers. CONSTITUTION:By utilizing a fact that, as an ion exchanging body is influenced by an electric mutual force between a solid and a solution more strongly than by an adsorptive force between solids in an electrolyte solution, separation thereof becomes possible, concn. of a slurry of ion exchange fibers is adjusted to be at most 8 % in an electrolyte water solution of 10-20W/V% and the mixture is stirred to separate the mixture of electrically different ion exchange fibers into each component.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify the device, to make the device compact and to conduct efficient reaction distillation at the time of using reaction distillation as the technology of a chemical reaction by forming a solid acid catalyst to be inserted into a reaction distillation tower with a felt ion-exchange fiber. CONSTITUTION:A felt is formed by using a spun multicore sea-island composite fiber. The felt at the catalytic part 1 is notched, and a crafted material is mounted in the notch. The lower rectification part 2 is packed with a Rashing ring. Pure water is introduced from above the catalyst and a mixture of methyl acetate with methanol from above the rectification part. A reflux condenser 3 is fixed to the top of the tower, and the condensate is refluxed. The ion- exchange fiber is formed into a felt to attain various performances, and reaction distillation is improved by using the solid acid catalyst. A fiber, in which a composite of the ion-exchange polymer of polystyrene and reinforcing fiber is formed, is preferably used.
