Abstract: The present invention improves the filterability in a solid-liquid separation of a saccharified solution using a microfiltration membrane, by adjusting a lignin content of a pretreatment substance derived from a cellulose-containing biomass to 8.5% or lower whereby a cake, in which a solid content in the saccharified solution is concentrated on a membrane surface, is more likely to be formed. In addition, the present invention enables an efficient solid-liquid separation of the saccharified solution using the microfiltration membrane by collecting the cake formed on the membrane surface.

Abstract: In a process of producing a sugar liquid from a woody biomass, the conventional techniques have such a problem that a specific component contained in the sugar liquid from the woody biomass remarkably deteriorates the filtration performance when the sugar liquid is filtrated through a microfiltration membrane and/or an ultrafiltration membrane. In the present invention, it becomes possible to improve the filtration performance of the sugar liquid through the microfiltration membrane and/or the ultrafiltration membrane, and it also becomes possible to produce the sugar liquid with high efficiency by hydrolyzing the woody biomass to produce a liquid component and then reacting the liquid component with a mannanase.

Abstract: This method for producing alcohol from cellulose-containing biomass includes the following steps (1) to (8). Step (1): a step for pre-processing cellulose-containing biomass. Step (2): a step for saccharification, by means of a diastatic enzyme, of the cellulose-containing biomass after the pre-processing as obtained by step (1). Step (3): a step for eliminating saccharification residual solids from the saccharification processing product obtained from step (2). Step (4): a step for culturing an alcohol fermentation microorganism with the aqueous saccharide solution obtained in step (3) as the starting material for fermentation. Step (5): a step for eliminating the alcohol fermentation microorganism from the culture liquid containing the alcohol fermentation microorganism obtained in step (4). Step (6): a step for recovering alcohol by distillation of the alcohol fermentation liquid obtained in step (5). Step (7): a step for filtering the distillation residue liquid obtained in step (6) through a reverse osmosis membrane. Step (8): a step for wastewater treatment of the retentate obtained in step (7).

Abstract: [Problem] An aqueous saccharide solution obtained from biomass contains various fermentation-inhibiting substances, however, it is possible to easily remove fermentation-inhibiting substances derived from biomass at a low cost by treating the aqueous saccharide solution with microbes that do not utilize glucose or xylose or with a crude enzyme product derived from said microbes.

Abstract: Provided is an efficient method for decomposing biomass, which involves producing glucosidase in which the cellulose degrading efficiency is improved, and using said glucosidase. Specifically, provided is a method for producing a mutant glucosidase wherein a DNA encoding a secretion signal sequence and a DNA encoding Asn-X-Ser or Asn-X-Thr are introduced into a DNA encoding a glucosidase from a thermophile, and the resulting product is introduced into a eukaryotic microorganism and expressed as a secretory protein. Also provided are an enzyme composition containing said mutant glucosidase, and a biomass hydrolysis method using said enzyme composition.

Abstract: A method for producing molasses by repeating a process of preparing a slurry of a pretreated cellulose-containing biomass, hydrolyzing the slurry using cellulase from filamentous fungi, then subjecting the hydrolyzate to solid-liquid separation into a solution component and hydrolysis residue, filtering the solution component through an ultrafiltration membrane and recovering the cellulase from filamentous fungi as a non-permeate, and recovering molasses as a permeate; wherein the purpose is to use the wash solution, obtained by washing the separation membrane after the solution component has been filtered through an ultrafiltration membrane, the cellulase from filamentous fungi has been recovered as a non-permeate, and molasses has been recovered as a permeate, when preparing a slurry of pretreated cellulose-containing biomass for subsequent molasses production processes. This makes it possible to suppress the adsorption of cellulase from filamentous fungi to the hydrolysis residue of the cellulose-containing biomass and efficiently recover and/or reuse the ß-glucosidase, which plays an important role in the hydrolysis reaction in particular; and keeps the molasses production cost low.
