Abstract: A Recharge-Expose-and-Develop Image on Image color electrophotographic printing system in which the photoreceptor is recharged between development of one color of toner image and the subsequent exposure for a second color latent image by first being sprayed with opposite sign ions to reduce the photoreceptor potential and then being charged with correct sign ions to recharge the photoreceptor to a desired potential.

Abstract: A scavengeless/non-interactive electrostatographic development system for use in highlight color imaging. To control the developability of lines and the degree of interaction between the toner (44) and receiver (10), the combination of an AC voltage (54) on a developer donor roll (42) with an AC voltage (50) between toner cloud forming wires (48) and donor roll (42) enables efficient detachment of toner (44) from the donor to form a toner cloud and position one end of the cloud in close proximity to the image receiver (10) for optimum development of lines and solid areas without scavenging a previously toned image.

Abstract: Direct electrostatic printing without the use of an apertured printhead structure is accomplished by supplying mechanical energy in an image-wise manner via AC fringe fields coupled to a toned donor member (22). The A.C. fringe fields are created using paired electrodes positioned behind the donor member where they can function properly, notwithstanding fluctuations in the ambient environment.

Abstract: An electrostatic charge pattern is formed on a charge retentive surface (10). The charge pattern comprises charged image areas and discharged background areas. The fully charged image areas are at a voltage level of approximately -500 volts and the background is at a voltage level of approximately -100 volts. A spatial portion of the image area is used to form a first image with a narrow development zone while other spatial portions are used to form other images which are distinct from the first image in some physical property such as color or magnetic state. The development is rapidly turned on and off by a combination of AC and DC electrical switching (26, 49, 50, 51, 52). Thus, high spatial resolution multi-color development in the process direction can be obtained in a single pass of the charge retentive surface through the processing stations of a copying or printing apparatus. Also, since the voltages representing all images are at the same voltage polarity unipolar toner can be employed. In order to effect development of all images with a unipolar toner, each of the development system structures (32, 34) is capable of selective actuation without physical movement.

Abstract: An apparatus in which a belt transports developer material into contact with a rigid member in a development zone to develop a latent image recorded thereon. The belt is maintained at a pre-selected tension. In this way, the developer material is compressed and spaces the belt from the rigid member.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a process and apparatus for causing the development of electrostatic latent images, the process residing in the provision of a development zone, encompassed by a flexible imaging member moving at a speed of from about 5 cm/sec to about 50 cm/sec, and a transporting member moving at a speed of from about 6 cm/sec to about 100 cm/sec, the flexible imaging member and transporting member having a distance therebetween of from about 0.05 millimeters to about 1.5 millimeters, the movement of said members causing a shearing action in said development zone, (2) adding an insulating developer composition to the development zone, the developer composition being comprised of insulating toner particles and insulating magnetic carrier particles, (3) introducing a high electric field in the development zone, (4) the insulating toner particles being caused to migrate from one layer of carrier particles to another layer of carrier particles contained in the development zone as a result of said shearing action, and said high electric field, the carrier particles rotating inone direction, then subsequently in an opposite direction, wherein said carrier particles are continuously made available immediately adjacent to the flexible imaging member.

Abstract: An apparatus which develops a latent image recorded on a flexible member. Developer material is transported into contact with the flexible member in the development zone so as to develop the latent image. The flexible member is maintained at a pre-selected tension. As the developer material contacts the flexible member in the development zone, the flexible member deforms so as to conform, at least partially, to the developer material.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a print head capable of high quality and high speed print ing. SOLUTION: There is disclosed a print head 34 used in a printer. In the print head 34, a propelling medium flows in a fluid passage toward a printing medium 38 and a printing material such as ink or toner is controlled to be introduced into the propelling medium flow such that sufficient energy for moving to the printing medium 38 is supplied to the them. A plurality of fluid passages for directing the propelling medium flow and printing material enable high quality and high resolution printing. The plurality of printing materials are introduced into the passage to be mixed in the fluid passage before printing on the printing medium 38. The printing materials are mixed and superposed on the printing medium 38 without executing aligning of a registor. One embodiment of a full-color printer having a single fluid passage is disclosed.
