    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system which start rotation of a spindle motor for a disc drive from a stationary state into an operation-enable state which is suitable for memory access operation. SOLUTION: A multiphase motor is energized with a first prescribed commutation phase. Whether zero-crossing of a counter electromotive force (bemf), corresponding to the first prescribed commutation phase, is produced. Whether the multiphase motor is advanced to a commutation phase relatively consecutive to the first prescribed commutation phase. According to the detection of the zero-cross of the bemf signal, the affirmative determination of that the multiphase motor is advanced to the commutation phase relatively consecutive to the first prescribed commutation phase, and acceleration procedure for accelerating the speed of the multiphase motor toward a required speed is executed.

SOLUTION: In a capacitive equipment for detecting fingerprint, fingers are detected by plural resistive grids on an electrode of the fingerprint sensor for detecting the resistance of fingers arranged on the face of sensor. Fingers arranged on the face of sensor joins up with resistive grids and make it possible to detect the resistance of skin. The resistance detected is judged whether it corresponds to predicted biological characteristic of alive skin structure or not. Therefore, the technology for detecting fingers gives guardianship of prevention against deceptions to the equipment for detecting fingerprint.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for compensating a variation in the spin speed of a data storage medium from a nominal, i.e., designed spin speed. SOLUTION: The nominal spin speed for the data storage medium in a specific magnetic disk storage system is provided, then the actual spin speed of the data storage medium is measured. The spin speed variation is determined by comparing the measured spin speed with the nominal spin speed. A correction coefficient is calculated based on a spin speed error, and it is applied to at least one data transfer parameter such as a channel reference frequency or read/write gate activation timing before it is applied to a subsequent data transfer process. Whether the measured spin speed is in an allowable spin speed range or not can be verified at this time.
