    Abstract: Aqueous polymer dispersions for use as binder and coating agent for pharmaceutical dosage forms are obtained by free radical polymerization of 60-99.95 (wt.) % alkyl (meth)acrylate and/or vinyl 1-24 carbon carboxylate monomer(s), 0.05-5 % monoolefinically unsaturated 3-8 carbon carboxylic acid and 0-35 % other free radical polymerizable monomers in an aqueous system in the presence of polymerization initiator and 0.0001-1.0 % anionic emulsifier with respect to total monomers. Independent claims are also included for: (1) production of these aqueous dispersions by emulsion polymerization in water; (2) polymer powders obtained from the aqueous dispersion.
