    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing optically active 2-halogen propionic acids in which the corresponding optically active 2-halogen propionic acid alkyl ester is reacted at high temperature with a carboxylic acid in a transacylation reaction to form the optically active 2-halogen propionic acid and the carboxylic acid alkyl ester and the optically active 2-halogen propionic acid is separated from the reaction mixture. The optically active products of the process are important intermediate products for the production of plant protection agents and pharmaceuticals.
