Cyclohexenone oxime ethers of the formula I (I) (R1=C1-C6-alkyl; A=substituted or unsubstituted alkylene or alkenylene; Z=a 5-membered or 6-membered heteroaromatic structure; X=substituted or unsubstituted amino, nitro, cyano, halogen, alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, C1-C4-haloalkyl, C1-C4-haloalkoxy, carboxyl, C1-C4-alkoxycarbonyl, substituted or unsubstituted benzyloxycarbonyl and phenyl; n=0 to 3, or 1 to 4 where Z is halogen-substituted pyridyl; and R2=alkoxyalkyl or alkylthioalkyl; substituted or unsubstituted cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl; a substituted or unsubstituted 5-membered saturated heterocyclic structure which contains one or two hetero atoms; a substituted or unsubstituted 6-membered or 7-membered saturated or mono- or diunsaturated heterocyclic structure containing one or two hereto atoms; a substituted or unsubstituted 5-membered heteroaromatic structure containing one to three hereto atoms; substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or pyridyl) and their agriculturally useful salts and esters of C1-C10-carboxylic acids and inorganic acids. The compounds are suitable as herbicides.

Benzyl esters of the formula I (I) where R1 is methyl, ethyl, halogen, methoxy or ethoxy, R2 is alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, bicycloalkyl, bicycloalkenyl, C1-C5-alkyl-substituted cycloalkyl, C1-C5-substituted cycloalkenyl, C1-C5-alkyl-substituted bicycloalkyl or C1-C5-alkyl-substituted bicycloalkenyl, R3 is hydrogen, cyano, C2-C4-alkynyl, C2-C4-alkenyl or C1-C4-alkyl, A is the carboxylate radical of an acid component typical for pyrethroids and X is hydrogen or halogen, with the proviso that R2 is not CH2-CH=CH-B when B is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl and at the same time R1 is methyl or halogen, and furthermore with the proviso that R2 is not methyl when R1 is methyl, their manufacture, their use for combating pests, and precursors for manufacturing the benzyl esters.

The present invention relates to a method of combating animal pests which comprises contacting the animal pest, their habit, breeding ground, food supply, plant, seed, soil, area, material or environment in which the animal pests are growing or may grow, or the materials, plants, seeds, soils, surfaces or spaces to be protected from animal attack or infestation, with a pesticidally effective amount of at least one 1-(1,2-diphenyl-ethyl)-3-(2-hydroxyethyl)-thiourea compound I or an agriculturally acceptable salt thereof, wherein m is 0 to 5, n is 0 to 5, R 3 and R 4 are H or optionally substituted alkyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or benzyl, R 7 , R 8 , R 9 and R 10 are H or optionally substituted C 1 -C 6 -alkyl, C 1 -C 6 -haloalkyl, C 1 -C 6 -alkylamino, C 1 -C 6 -alkoxy, C 3 -C 6 -cycloalkyl, phenyl or benzyl and the variables R 1 , R 2 , R 5 and R 6 are as defined in the claims. The invention relates also to a method for protecting crops from attack or infestation by animal pests, a method for protecting non-living materials from attack or infestation by animal pests, novel 1-(1,2-diphenyl-ethyl)-3-(2-hydroxyethyl)-thiourea compounds I and their agriculturally acceptable salts as well as to an agricultural composition comprising a 1-(1,2-diphenyl-ethyl)-3-(2-hydroxyethyl)-thiourea compound I or a salt thereof.
