Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently read identification information of a recording medium cartridge. SOLUTION: The reader 5 of identification information of a recording medium cartridge 1 is provided with a judging means 5a to judge whether the recording medium cartridge 1 has an identifying information memory means 4 for storing the identifying information of a memory medium 3 or not and an information reading means 5b for reading identifying information of the identifying information memory means 4. In the course before the information reading means 5b reads the identifying information of the identifying information memory means 4, whether the recording medium cartridge 1 has the identifying information memory means 4 or not is judged by the judging means 5a, and only when the recording medium cartridge 1 has the identifying information memory means 4, the information reading means 5b reads the identifying information of the identification information memory means 4. This eliminates the wasting of time and labor required for the reading of the identification information while preventing problems (deterioration damage and the like) caused in the information reading means 5b attributed to an attempt to read the identification information with respect to the recording medium cartridge 1 having to identification information memory means 4.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To forcedly eject a recording medium cassette when the recording medium cassette is not ejected to a prescribed position, in the cassette drive provided with a cassette loading mechanism for making the recording medium cassette land on a driving mechanism by making it move in the almost right angle direction against the pull-in direction after the recording medium cassette inserted to a cassette port is pulled in the inserting direction. SOLUTION: This cassette drive is provided with a position sensor 30 for detecting that the recording medium cassette 2 exists in the position ejectable by only the almost linear movement in the ejecting direction and the mechanism 15 forcedly ejecting the cassette for making the recording medium cassette 2 move to the ejecting direction, and it is constituted in such a manner that the recording medium cassette 2 is forcedly ejected by operating the cassette forcedly ejecting mechanism 15 when the recording medium cassette 2 is not ejected in spite of issuing the ejecting instruction to the cassette drive and also when the position sensor 30 detects that the ejection is allowed only by making the recording medium cassette 2 linearly move to the ejecting direction.

The memory 4 stores such information as the volume, partition, and vendor of a tape 3 and a user region stores tape information consisting of the electric characteristic information of the tape 3, damage information, usage history information for a drive, and data delivery information. By adjusting the characteristics of the drive according to the electrical characteristic information being read, the difference in the characteristics for every tape can be absorbed. By reading the damage information before loading a tape, the access speed can be increased. Also, since the housing destination information is stored, the search time can be reduced. Further, when using the cassette tape with a tape changer having a plurality of drives, the usage history information can be analyzed and the device can be maintained and managed.

The 2nd transmission mechanism 23 is driven by the 1st transmission mechanism 22, and the magnetic tape 4 is drawn out onto the sliding surface of the drum type magnetic head 18 and abutted thereon by the 2nd magnetic tape operating mechanisms 26, 27 while being moved by the 2nd transmission mechanism 23. The 3rd transmission mechanism 24 is operated for driving by the 2nd transmission mechanism 23, and the magnetic tape 4 at the side of a tape winding reel 9 is wound by the 3rd magnetic tape operating mechanisms 28, 29 while being moved by the 3rd transmission mechanism 24.
