Abstract: A process is disclosed for continuously extracting polyamide articles from a circulating extraction solution in a vertical reaction column subdivided into two zones. In the first zone the polyamide is treated with an aqueous epsilon-caprolactam solution with 15 to 40 wt. % epsilon-caprolactam as extraction agent at 100 to 140 degrees C and water is then used in the second zone as extraction agent at a temperature 5 to 40 degrees C lower. The process allows polyamides with a low monomer and oligomer content to be economically extracted. 10 claims, 1 figure

Abstract: A process is disclosed for continuously extracting polyamide particles from a circulating extraction solution in a vertical extraction column subdivided into two zones. The polyamide is treated in the first zone with an aqueous .epsilon.-caprolactam solution with 40-95 wt. % .epsilon.-caprolactam as extraction agent at 100 to 140 ~C, then subsequently treated with water in the second zone. Finally, the caprolactam can be extracted in a manner known per se. The process allows polyamide with a low dimer content to be economically produced.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing a polyamide by reacting at least one aminonitrile with water wherein the preparation process has the following steps: /1/ at least one aminonitrile is reacted with water at a temperature ranging from 100 to 360 degC and pressure in the range of 4 to 30 x 10e6 Pa, yielding a reaction mixture; /2/ the reaction mixture is further reacted at a temperature from 150 to 400 degC and pressure lower than the pressure in step 1. The temperature and pressure are selected to yield a first gaseous phase and a first liquid or solid phase or a mixture of a first solid and a first liquid phase. The first gaseous phase is separated from the first liquid or solid phase or the mixture of a first liquid and a first solid phase is separated; and /3/ the first liquid or solid phase or the mixture of a first liquid and first solid phase is mixed with a water-containing gaseous or liquid phase at a temperature from 150 to 360 degC and pressure from 0.1 do 30 x 10e6 Pa, yielding a product mixture. Also disclosed are other embodiments of this process and the thus produced polyamides.
