Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing aspartic acid polycondensates. Finely dispersed aspartic acid is heated up to a temperature of at least 150 DEG C and polycondensation is carried out in the presence of a cocondensable monomer that contains at least one functional group and of acid catalysts so that the catalysts and if required the co-condensable monomers contact the aspartic acid, heated up to a temperature of at least 150 DEG C, only in the reaction zone in which polycondensation takes place.
