    Abstract: The invention describes polyisobutenyl derivatives of succinic acid obtainable by: i) reacting a polyisobutene which has a reactive end group content of at least 80% and whose molecular weight distribution is characterized by a maximum M P in the distribution curve in the range from 500 to 20 000 daltons and a ratio of weight average molecular weight to number average molecular weight M W /M N of below 1.4 with maleic acid or maleic anhydride; ii) reacting the polyisobutene-succinic acid derivative obtained in i) with at least one compound I which has at least one primary or secondary amino group and/or an OH group to form an amide or ester bond, and also a process for preparing them and their use as additives in lubricant compositions.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing raffinates and extracts of polymers having an M N that ranges from 500 to 5000 Dalton like those resulting during the polymerization of alkenes with, in essence, four carbon atoms, whereby the polymers and extracts are predominately comprised of monoalkenes. The raffinates and extracts are produced by: a) treating the polymer with a solvent that is insoluble or slightly soluble therein with an E T (30) value ranging from 38 to 57 kcal/mol or with a mixture consisting of two or more solvents of this type, and by; b) separating the resulting raffinate phase and extract phase from one another and optionally liberating them from the solvent. The invention also relates to the novel raffinates and extracts obtained in this manner, to certain derivatives of these products and to the use of these raffinates, extracts and derivatives as auxiliary agents in fuels and lubricating oils. The invention additionally relates to the fuels and lubricating oils of this type.

    Abstract: Production of polyalkenyl succinimide products (I) by reacting a polyalkene with maleic acid, maleic anhydride or a functional derivative thereof and reacting the resulting polyalkenyl succinic anhydride (II) with an oligo- or polyamine (III). Production of polyalkenyl succinimide products (I) by reacting a polyalkene with maleic acid, maleic anhydride or a functional derivative thereof and reacting the resulting polyalkenyl succinic anhydride (II) with an oligo- or polyamine (III) comprises either (a) reacting (II) with an alcohol or phenol and reacting the product (not isolated) with (III); or (b) reacting (II) with (III) in the presence of an alcohol or phenol; and (c) optionally removing the alcohol or phenol. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) polyalkenyl succinimide products produced by a process as above; (2) polyalkenyl succinimide products that are produced from a polyalkenyl succinic anhydride and an oligo- or polyamine and contain no more than 30 wt.% of the corresponding polyalkenyl succinamide; (3) polyisobutenyl succinimide products that contain no more than 30 wt.% of the corresponding polyisobutenyl succinamide and are produced from (a) a polyisobutene with a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 500-10,000 and a terminal double bond content of more than 50 mole%; (b) maleic anhydride; and (c) either a linear, branched, cyclic or cyclic branched alkylene polyamine with 1-10 carbon atoms in each alkylene group and 2-12 nitrogen atoms, at least one of which is present as a primary amine group, or an oligo- or polyamine of formula (IIIa); (4) polyisobutenyl succinic acid monoester products produced from (a) a polyisobutene with a Mn of 500-10,000 and a terminal double bond content of more than 50 mole%; (b) maleic anhydride; and (c) alcohols of formula (IV) or phenols; (5) diesel and gasoline fuel additive packages comprising the products of (1)-(3) and optionally other additives; and (6) lubricant compositions comprising the products of (1)-(3) and optionally other additives.
