    Abstract: The invention discloses an organic electronic device including a substrate, an functional areahaving active elements and topographical steps, an active polymeric barrier layer on the functional area, which is able to bind the moisture and oxidizing agents and which planarizes the topographical steps of the functional area. A cap encapsulates the organic functional area and the active polymeric barrier layer. Such an organic electronic device can easily be built with a thin-film encapsulation and also shows an enhanced shelf-life due to the enhanced barrier abilities of the cap and the active polymeric barrier layer.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a passive matrix display comprising structured pixels and a structured second electrode on the basis of electroluminescent polymers. The inventive display is specifically characterized in that functional polymer layers (12 and 14) are connected to a first electrode (1) and are delimited by windows (10) of an insulating window layer (5). At least one further insulating strip-shaped layer (15 and 20 for two layers) is disposed between the windows of the first insulating layer (5) and is disposed at an angle to the first electrode strips in the form of a web. A second electrode (2), structured by these webs, is connected to the functional layers and extends at an angle to the first electrode strips between the webs.
