Abstract: A general global gateway (GGG) permits authenticating between a CDMA network and a GSM network such that a mobile station having a subscription in a GSM network can roam into a CDMA network and be authenticated to use the CDMA network. The GGG obtains authentication parameters from the mobile station a nd determines whether the authentication parameters satisfy GGG authentication criteria. During the authentication process, the mobile station is placed in "SMS only" status until authorized by the GGG. Checks are made during the authentication process to assure the GGG and mobile station agree on the number of GSM network accesses and to assure the mobile station is authorize d for GSM access for a time period.

Abstract: An apparatus and method of mapping a short message service (SMS) information from a first communications system (120) to a corresponding message in a second, different cellular system (116) is claimed. SMS information having a format required by the first communication system (120) is received. The SMS information is mapped into a format required by the second communication system (106). Additional information is appended, if necessary, or informati on is removed as being extraneous information, if necessary, as required by the second communication system (106).

Abstract: A method of authenticating a mobile station (18) from a first base station (12) in a first cellular communications system controlled by a first mobile switching control station (10) to a second base station (14) in a second, different cellular system controlled by a second mobile switching control station is described. The method comprises generating at the second cellular communication system an authentication code as the result of applying an algorithm to a private key assigned to the mobile station for the second cellular communications system and a random number generated by the second cellular communications system. An authentication code is also generated at the first cellular communication system as the result of applying an algorithm to the private key and the random number. The authentication code generated at the first cellular communication system is then transmitted to a mobile station in a data packet, and, from there, the authentication code is transmitted to the second cellular communication system. The authentication code generated at the first cellular communications system is then compared with the authentication code generated at the second cellular communications system.

Abstract: A telecommunications device and/or service enable a user to establish and maintain a profile which is then associated with the user or the user' s tele-communication device (the 'calling device'). The profile is stored on a profile server that is in communication with the telecommunications service provider. A receiving device receives a call from the calling device and is provided with the profile during call set-up. Some or all of the profile is used in connection with the incoming call on the receiving device. This feature is known as Enhanced Caller-ID or RCLID (Rich Calling Line Identification). Description focuses on mobile networks and the calling and called devices being mobile devices. The profile server is connected to the wireless network via a WAN (internet).

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a mobile communication device that measures characteristics or attributes of a first communications network that vary according to physical location within that first communications network to create a fingerprint, or signature, of a location within the first communications network. When the fingerprint of the current location of the mobile device is created it can be compared to a known fingerprint associated with a second communication network to determine the mobile device's proximity to the second communications network. Furthermore, the second and subsequent fingerprint that are generated for a particular communications network can be used to modify the stored fingerprint so as to refine it to improve detecting the proximity to the communications network.
