    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A method may include receiving, from a base station and while being outside of a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, an indication of a length of downlink symbols used to transmit a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) that carries broadcast information, and decoding the PDSCH based on the indication. Another method may include receiving, from a base station, a PDSCH that carries broadcast information over a plurality of downlink symbols and while being outside of an RRC connected state, perform a first blind decoding of the PDSCH over a first set of the plurality of downlink symbols, and perform a second blind decoding of the PDSCH during a second set of the plurality of downlink symbols, the second set being different in length than the first set.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for transmission of an indication of an activated bandwidth part (BWP) or component carrier (CC), or combination thereof, to a user equipment (UE) through downlink control information (DCI) that is excluding a grant of resources of the BWP or CC. A UE may establish a connection with a base station in which one or more CCs may be configured with one or more BWPs. The base station may indicate which BWP is active for a transmission in DCI that is transmitted subsequent to the configuration of the one or more CCs, and a UE may activate a corresponding BWP or CC based on the indication. In some cases, a CC may be deactivated unless the DCI indicates that at least one BWP of the CC is active.

    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclose provide various methods and apparatuses for communicating, controlling, and configuring component carrier and bandwidth part (BWP). A scheduling entity receives a capability report from a user equipment (UE). The capability report indicates a capability of the UE to utilize at least one of carrier aggregation (CA) or one or more bandwidth parts. The scheduling entity transmits a command to the UE to reconfigure at least one of a CA configuration or a bandwidth part (BWP) configuration. The scheduling entity determines an anticipated response timing of an acknowledgment (ACK) of the command based on the capability report received from the UE. The scheduling entity receives the ACK according to the anticipated response timing.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for multiplexing channel state information (CSI) reference signals (CSI-RSs) and synchronization signals in wireless communications systems operating according to new radio (NR), e.g., 5th generation (5G), techniques. An exemplary method includes sampling subcarriers of a synchronization signal (SS) block based on a frequency density of channel state information (CSI) reference signals (CSI-RSs) multiplexed in a symbol period with the SS block, and performing at least one of: measuring at least one of reference signal received power (RSRP) or CSI, based on the sampled subcarriers and the CSI-RSs, or reporting at least one of the RSRP or the CSI, based on the sampled subcarriers and the CSI-RSs.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station and user equipment (UE) may utilize different slot structures for communications depending on the type of data to be transmitted. A base station may configure the slot structures based on a capability of a UE or operation conditions. The base station may identify a slot structure for a first slot, which may be group-specific or UE-specific, and determine a slot structure for a subsequent slot, which may be UE-specific or based on the slot structure of the first slot. A set of slot structure combinations may be identified to be used by a UE for combining the first and subsequent slots, and one combination may be selected based on a capability of the UE, an operation to be performed by the UE, an operational condition associated with the UE, or a combination thereof.

    Abstract: Various aspects described herein relate to techniques for using orthogonal demodulation reference signals (DMRSs) for downlink control channels in wireless communications systems. In an aspect, a method for a user equipment (UE) includes receiving one or more DMRSs over a multi-symbol downlink control channel. The method may further include identifying a time-first control channel element (CCE)-to-resource element group (REG) mapping for the multi-symbol downlink control channel, and identifying an orthogonal DMRS of the one or more DMRSs based on the time-first CCE-to-REG mapping, and decoding the multi-symbol downlink control channel based on at least the identified orthogonal DMRS.

    Abstract: Aspects herein describe increasing density of reference signal transmissions in wireless communications. A plurality of reference signal configurations, each indicating resource elements for one or more antenna ports over which reference signals for the one or more antenna ports are scheduled for transmission, can be received. An association configuration indicating an association between at least two antenna ports as having similar channel characteristics can also be received. A plurality of reference signals can be received in the resource elements corresponding to the at least two antenna ports as indicated in the at least two of the plurality of reference signal configurations, which can be used to perform a channel measurement of the similar channel characteristics of channels of the at least two antenna ports over at least a portion of the plurality of reference signals.
