Abstract: A power sliding door assembly (12) for a motor vehicle comprising a door structure (20) mounted on a motor vehicle for movement between closed and opened positions and a drive assembly (22) mounted on the door structure (20 ). The drive assembly (22) includes a rotatable gear (24) engageable with a gea r track (26) provided on the vehicle. The rotatable gear (24) is drivable in a one direction to effect movement of the door towards the opened position and drivable in an opposite direction to effect movement of the door structure (20) towards the closed position. A drive shaft is coupled with the drive assembly (22) and is constructed and arranged to rotatably drive the rotatab le gear (24). A reversible motor is mounted on said door structure (20) and is energizable to drive the drive shaft (36) in a first direction to enable the drive shaft to drive the rotatable gear (24) in the one direction, and energizable to drive the drive shaft (36) in a second direction opposite the first direction to enable the drive shaft (36) to drive the rotatable gear (24) in the opposite direction.

Abstract: A latch and mounting pin assembly (20) includes a latch housing (22) with an inner plate mounted to one side (28) and an outer plate mounted to an opposi ng side (26). Each of the plates include three apertures which are aligned with each other. Three mounting pins (36) are included with each pin extending through a corresponding pair of apertures. A head (38) is disposed on one en d of each of the pins for abutting the outer plate. The latch and pin assembly is characterized by each mounting pin having an enlarged barrel portion extending from the head to a shoulder. The shoulder abuts the inner plate to orient the outer plate relative to the inner plate. There is also provided a threaded shank (50) extending outward from the shoulder to provide a means f or mounting the assembly to a frame of a vehicle.

Abstract: A power-operated vehicle door locking assembly including separate inner and outer door locking mechanisms connected with a housing assembly and an electric motorized system operable to selectively move (1) the inner door locking mechanism between an inoperative and an inner door locking position in response to inner manual electric motor energizing actuations and (2) the outer door locking mechanism between an inoperative and an outer door locking positions in response to outer manual electric motor energizing actuations. The arrangement is such that an outer manual electric motor energizing actuation without a corresponding inner manual electric motor energizing actuation causes a door latching assembly when in a door latching position to be incapable of being moved into a door unlatching position by an outer door latch releasing mechanism while at the same time the door latching assembly is capable of being moved into the door unlatching position thereof by an inner door latch releasing mechanism.

Abstract: A self-releasing clutch assembly for locking a vehicle door lock. The clutch assembly (11) includes a servo-actuated input drive and a cinching output drive. A gear shaped first actuator (42) is mounted to the input drive. A cylindrical second actuator (44) is mounted to the output drive and is moveable relative to the first actuator. Four pairs of rollers (50) are interdisposed between the first and second actuators and moveable between a disengaged position and an engaged position. With the disengaged position, the rollers rest against the first actuator and allowing the second actuator to rotate relative thereto. With the engaged position, the rollers interlock the first and second actuators for relative concurrent movement. The clutch assembly is characterized by the first actuator including four driving surfaces (43) and the second actuator including four corresponding abutments (48). The driving surfaces engage and move the rollers from the disengaged position to the engaged position in response to movement by the input drive. The abutments then lock the rollers between the first and second actuators to couple the input drive with the output drive thereby transferring the movement of the input drive to the output drive. The subject invention also includes a biasing device (54) for automatically returning the rollers to the disengaged position when the driving force from the first actuator ceases.

Abstract: A self-releasing clutch assembly for locking a vehicle door lock. The clutch assembly (11) includes a servo-actuated input drive and a cinching output drive. A gear shaped first actuator (42) is mounted to the input drive. A cylindrical second actuator (44) is mounted to the output drive and is moveable relative to the first actuator. Four pairs of rollers (50) are interdisposed between the first and second actuators and moveable between a disengaged position and an engaged position. With the disengaged position, t he rollers rest against the first actuator and allowing the second actuator to rotate relative thereto. With the engaged position, the rollers interlock th e first and second actuators for relative concurrent movement. The clutch assembly is characterized by the first actuator including four driving surfaces (43) and the second actuator including four corresponding abutments (48). The driving surfaces engage and move the rollers from the disengaged position to the engaged position in response to movement by the input drive. The abutments then lock the rollers between the first and second actuators t o couple the input drive with the output drive thereby transferring the moveme nt of the input drive to the output drive. The subject invention also includes a biasing device (54) for automatically returning the rollers to the disengage d position when the driving force from the first actuator ceases.

Abstract: A power striker mechanism (10) has a housing (16) adapted for mounting on a vehicle. A striker assembly (12) is mounted to the housing and constrained to slide between an inboard and outboard position. An outer link (42) is pivotally attached to the striker assembly (12). An inner link (48) is pivotally attached to th e housing (16) and pivotally attached to the outer link (42). A cinching mechanism (14) linkably connects the inner (48) and outer links (42). Driving movement of the cinching mechanism (14) effects the inboard and outboard movement of the striker assembly (12). The driving movement is generally perpendicular to the inboard outboard movement of the striker assembly (12) thereby isolating the cinching mechanism (14) from loads imparted to the striker assembly (12).
