    Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of 2-methyl-6-solanylbenzoquinone methyltransferase which, when absent, brings about retarded growth and chlorotic leaves, as target for herbicides. In this context, there are provided novel nucleic acid sequences comprising SEQ ID NO:5 and SEQ ID NO:7 and corresponding functional equivalents. Moreover, the present invention relates to the use of 2-methyl-6-solanylbenzoquinone methyltransferase and its functional equivalents in a method for identifying herbicidal or growth-regulatory compounds, and to the use of the compounds identifed via the method as herbicides or growth regulators.

    Abstract: The invention relates to piperazine compounds of the following defined ge neral formula (I) and to their use as herbicides. The invention also relates to crop protection agents and to a method for combating undesired plant gro wth.     Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for controlling undesired vegetation at a plant cultivation site. The method comprises the steps of providing, at said site, a plant that comprises at least one nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a wild-type hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase or a mutated hydroxyphenyl pyruvate dioxygenase (mut-HPPD) which is resistant or tolerant to a coumarone-derivative herbicide and/or a nucleotide sequence encoding a wild-type homogentisate solanesyl transferase or a mutated homogentisate solanesyl tranferase (mut-HST) which is resistant or tolerant to a coumarone derivative herbicide, and then applying an effective amount of said herbicide to said plant cultivation site. The invention further refers to plants comprising mut-HPPD and to methods of obtaining such plants.
