Also disclosed are microemulsion compositions which exhibit increased stability for agriculturally active ingredients which are subject to hydrolysis and microemulsion compositions which exhibit improved cold temperature stability.
Abstract:
A hair spray fixative resin comprises a vinyl acetate/alkyl maleate half ester/N-substituted acrylamide terpolymer in a molar ratio of about 1.0 to 0.6-0.8 to 0.08-0.12, which is preferably produced by a suspension or solution polymerization process. Utilizing N-substituted acrylamides in place of isoborneol methacrylates in the terpolymer provides superior holding power over conventional hair fixative resins, at lower cost.

Abstract:
This invention relates to a coating composition which can be cured by exposure to radiation energy in the presence of a cationic photoinitiator. The composition comprises a mixture of between about 1 and about 75 wt. % of a reactive vinyl or alk-1-enyl ether cyclocarbonate having formula (I) wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R' is C2 to C4 alkylene; n has a value of from 0 to 4 and n' has a value of from 1 to 4 and between about 99 and about 25 wt. % of a polymerizable compound containing an onium salt initiator which is normally insoluble in said polymerizable compound or a mixture thereof. The invention also relates to the use of the composition as a protective coating on a substrate. Preferably, the cyclocarbonate is prepared by a two-stage liquid phase process wherein an alk-2-enyl glycidyl ether having formula (II) wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R' is C2 to C4 alkylene, n has a value of from 1 to 4 and n' has a value of from 0 to 4, is catalytically isomerized to the corresponding alk-1-enyl glycidyl ether in the first-stage of the reaction and the reaction mixture of the first-stage, containing the isomerization catalyst is then contacted with carbon dioxide in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst under a pressure ranging from atmospheric to about 400 psig in the second stage of the reaction.
Abstract:
Terpolymers of maleic anhydride, a C1-C5 alkyl vinyl ether and isobutylene or a C12-C14 alpha-olefin, and crosslinked products thereof, are provided herein for use in thickener, denture adhesive, sunscreen, hair spray, and waterproofing compositions. The alpha-olefin comonomer is a hydrophobic, straight chain, unsaturated hydrocarbon such as dodecene or tetradecene, which is present in the terpolymer in predetermined amounts relative to the hydrophilic maleic anhydride component, to provide a terpolymer having a suitable HLB for these applications. The isobutylene comonomer provides hydrophilic terpolymer compositions which are particularly useful as denture adhesives.

Abstract:
Ectoparasites such as blowfly, lice, keds, ticks and scab in animals such as sheep are controlled by diluting an aqueous emulsion concentrate of a substantially water insoluble insecticide in a delivery system to form a homogenous aqueous animal wetting solution containing from 25 to 500 mg/litre of an insecticide, and wetting the animal with an effective insecticidal amount of the solution. The concentrate delivery system contains a surfactant system and a co-solvent mixture of an N-C1 to C4 alkyl pyrrolidone and an N-C6 to C14 alkyl pyrrolidone. The insecticide may be a pyrethroid insecticide such as cypermethrin.
