Abstract: An automatic gain control (AGC) apparatus for a digital receiver is disclosed herein. The AGC apparatus includes an adjustable gain amplifier (18) having an input port for receiving an input signal, a control port for receiving a gain control signal, and an output port for providing an output signal. The AGC apparatus further includes a measurement circuit for generating a received power signal based on the power of the output signal. A saturating integrator (22) compares the received power signal to a reference signal and generates a gain control signal in response to a result of the comparison. The saturating integrator (22) includes a decision circuit (46) for enabling integration based on values of the received power signal, the reference signal, and the gain control signal. In a preferred implementation, the utilization of an input limiter in conjunction with an analog to digital converter enables accommodation of an increased input signal dynamic range.

SOLUTION: A system and method for generating a local oscillator (LO) frequency in a zero intermediate frequency (IF) receiver or transmitter is presented. A signal is received from a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The signal has a VCO frequency. The VCO frequency is divided by a number N to produce a signal having a divided-down frequency. The signal having the VCO frequency is then mixed with the signal having the divided-down frequency to produce an output signal having an output frequency. Local oscillator leakage is reduced. Abstract: A portable phone has an outer casing with opposite upper and lower walls, one of the walls having an opening for access to the interior of the casing, and a lid removably mounted in the opening for normally closing the opening. A main circuit board is mounted in the outer casing, with a plurality of phone components mounted on the circuit board. A predetermined region of the board aligned with the opening is left exposed or empty of components, and forms a recess for receiving a battery. The battery receiving recess has contact pads, and a battery is removably engaged in the recess with battery contacts engaging the contact pads in the recess, whereby the battery can be removed and replaced via the opening after opening the lid.

Abstract: The process of the present invention adjusts the input gain by a predetermined amount. The receiver processing measures the gain change in the IF signal power. If the change is less than the predetermined amount, the CDMA signal and jammers are below the noise floor and, therefore, the gain is increased. If the IF signal power change is equal to the predetermined amount, the CDMA signal is above the noise floor and the interference is minimal. Therefore, in this case, gain adjustment is not necessary, but increasing gain will improve sensitivity. If the IF signal power change is greater than the predetermined amount, the interference is evident and the gain is reduced to reduce the intermodulation products. This process is used until the receiver is operating at the best compromise between interference and noise figure.
