Abstract: Apparatus and method for use in a mobile station in a wireless communication system, comprising in which: a decoder (218) detects if frames received from a base station are good or bad; a first counter (224) counts received bad frames; a second counter (226) counts received good frames; a control processor for resets the first counter (224) to zero and incrementing the second counter (226) by one if a received frame is declared a good frame, and incremens the first counter (224) by one and resetting the second counter (226) to zero if a received frame is declared a bad frame, and disables a transmitter if the value of the first counter (224) reaches a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: Interference that occurs during wireless communication may be managed by subframe time reuse. A method, apparatus amend medium of communication determines interfering subframe gating sequences. The transmission gating in a home access point is adjusted by determining a first gating sequence from a first unplanned access point. A second gating sequence is selected based on the first gating sequence, wherein the first and second gating sequences are non-interfering. Signals are transmitted according to the second gating sequence from a second unplanned access point to an associated access terminal.

Podle normy IS-95 je pilotní signál modulován 64-cipovou Walshovou posloupností se samými nulami. 64-cipová posloupnost se samými nulami se muže oznacit P a 64-cipová posloupnost se samými jednickami se muže oznacit M. Podle vynálezu mohou být vytvoreny prídavné pilotní signály pomocí kombinování 64-cipových posloupností samých nul P a samých jednicek M. Pro dva pilotní signály tak mohou být použity pilotní Walshovy posloupnosti PP a PM. Pro ctyri pilotní signály mohou být použity pilotní Walshovy posloupnosti PPPP, PMPM, PPMM a PMMP. Jakékoliv požadované množství pilotních Walshových posloupností muže být generováno nahrazením každého bitu v K-bitové Walshove posloupnosti 64-cipovou posloupností samých nul P nebo samých jednicek M v závislosti na hodnote daného bitu. Vynález se týká zpusobu zpracování signálu, které se vysílají ze základnové stanice na mobilní stanice v bunkové telekomunikacní síti nebo které se vysílají ze základnové stanice v bunkové telekomunikacní síti a prijímají se na mobilní stanici, pri použití výše uvedeného principu. Dále se týká zarízení pro prijímání pilotního signálu na mobilní stanici.

Abstract: Techniques for selectively combining multiple transmissions to recover a message comprised of multiple frames. Initially, each transmission is separately processed to recover the message. If the message cannot be recovered error-free from any single transmission, then portions of multiple transmissions are selectively combined to recover the message. Erased frames in a message recovered from a primary transmission (e.g., the one with the best pilot Ec/I0) and good frames from other transmissions are determined (e.g., based on the frame-level CRC). One or more combined messages are then formed, each including a different set of good frames substituting for the erased frames. If a good frame cannot be derived from any single transmission for a given erased frame, then symbols from multiple transmissions may be combined to derive the good frame. Each combined message is checked (e.g., based on the message-level CRC) to determine whether it is good or erased.

Abstract: A novel and improved method for performing transmit power control is described. A signal is transmitted at a transmit power and includes a traffic channel transmitted at a traffic channel transmit power, and a pilot channel transmitting at a pilot channel transmit power. The receive energy of the pilot channel is measured, and compared with a threshold. A power control command is generated and transmitted to the system generating the signal. This determines whether the command is to be applied to either the traffic channel, the pilot channel, or the entire signal. The power of the determined channel(s) is adjusted accordingly.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for encrypting transmission traffic at separate protocol layers L1, L2, and L3 so that separate encryption elements can be assigned to separate types of transmission traffic, which allows the implementation of different levels of encryption according to service requirements. Encryption elements use variable value inputs, called crypto-syncs, along with semi-permanent encryption keys to protect from replay attacks from rogue mobile stations. Since crypto-sync values vary, a method for synchronizing crypto-syncs at the mobile station and base station is also presented.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for reducing interference in a wireless communication system when the source of interference is a deterministic component of the system. In one embodiment, the receiver weights the transmitters according to when the source of interference is transmitted. Further, the transmitter may employ power boosting to overcome the source of interference. In one embodiment, a W-CDMA system transmits a sync channel concurrently with physical channels, wherein the sync channel is not orthogonal to the physical channels. The receiver may cancel the sync channel when receiving control or data information. Similarly, the receiver may weight the transmissions from multiple transmitters.

Abstract: A method for limiting peak transmit power in a CDMA communication system by transmitting a first communication signal having a first high transmit power region, and transmitting a second communication signal having a second high transmit power region. A first and a second communication signal are time offset to prevent the first and second high transmit power regions from occurring simultaneously. Time shifting only a portion of the first and second communication signals is also taught. The first and second communication signals can also include respective first and second low transmit power regions. The time offset can be selected to align one of the first and second high transmit power regions with one of the first and second low transmit power regions. The total transmit power signal can be determined and the time offset can be selected to minimize a peak level of the total transmit power signal. The communication signals are separated into a plurality of portions and portions of the first and second communication signals are time offset to re-order the sequence of transmission of the plurality of portions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing inter-system hard handoff between communication systems or inter-frequency hard handoff within a CDMA communication system is disclosed. The purpose of this invention is to reduce the probability of dropped calls during inter-system hard handoff. In the event that a hard handoff attempt is unsuccessful, the mobile station will return to the original system with information which the communication system of the present invention uses to assist in the performance of future handoff attempts. Alternatively, with no handoff attempt made, the mobile station monitors the destination system then returns to the original system with information used to assist in subsequent handoff attempts. The information returned from monitoring a CDMA system consists of results of a search for one or more pilots given at offsets in a specific list provided to the mobile station by the base station or a set of offsets based upon a predetermined search algorithm.
