The cover has sides extending from a top surface and terminating in a flange with an overhang. The overhang includes a catch. Abstract: A single-cylinder, four-stroke cycle, internal combustion engine arranged in an overhead valve configuration includes a first valve train and a second valve train. The first valve train includes a first cam on a camshaft, a first pushrod driven by the first cam, a first rocker arm attached to the first pushrod, and an exhaust valve driven by the first rocker arm. The second valve train includes a second cam on the camshaft, a second pushrod driven by the second cam, a second rocker arm attached to the second pushrod, and an intake valve driven by the second rocker arm. The first rocker arm is longer than the second rocker arm.

Abstract: A rocker arm assembly for mounting about a stud means. The rocker arm assembly generally comprises a rocker arm and a support member. The rocker arm has opposed first and second lateral ends and a central bore between the ends. The support member is positioned within the rocker arm central bore and mounted on the stud means. The rocker arm is configured to pivot about the support member. The support member has opposed lateral sides with a seal member extending along each lateral side. The seal members provide a seal between each lateral side of the support member and an internal surface of the central bore thereby providing more efficient oil lubrication to the ends of the rocker arm.

Abstract: A valve operating system includes: a decompression cam member that is provided on a camshaft, and moves between an operative position C where an exhaust tappet is operated in a valve opening direction in a compression stroke and an inoperative position D where the exhaust tappet is released; an exhaust gas recirculation cam member that is provided on the camshaft, and moves between an inoperative position F where the exhaust tappet is released and an operative position G where the exhaust tappet is operated in a valve opening direction in an intake stroke of the engine; and a common centrifugal mechanism that is driven by the camshaft to operate the decompression cam member to the operative position C in a starting rotation region of the engine and to the inoperative position D after the starting, and operate the exhaust gas recirculation cam member to the inoperative position F in a low speed operation region of the engine and to the operative position G in a high-speed operation region. Thus, the valve operating system can exert both a decompression function and an exhaust gas recirculation function.

In one embodiment, the present invention relates to an engine that includes a crankcase with a cylinder, a valve, a push rod, and a rocker arm supported by the crankcase and coupling the valve to the push rod. The internal combustion engine further includes a cam rotatably supported by the crankcase, and a cam follower arm having first and second ends and, proximate the second end, having bottom and top surfaces. The cam follower arm is rotatably supported by the crankcase about a pivot point proximate the first end. Abstract: A lifter assembly for an internal combustion engine, including an elongate sleeve having an upper radial wall portion provided with oil feed and oil bleed holes through which oil respectively enters and exits the lifter assembly. An elongate, hollow lifter body closed at one end is reciprocatingly disposed within the sleeve, and has a plunger reciprocatingly disposed therein. The plunger has an internal cavity at least partially defining a low pressure oil reservoir which is in at least periodic fluid communication with the oil feed hole. A high pressure oil reservoir is at least partially defined by the plunger and the lifter body closed end, and is in one-way fluid communication with the low pressure oil reservoir. A cap is reciprocatingly disposed within the sleeve and engaged with the plunger. Seals are provided which preclude oil from exiting the lifter assembly through the ends of the sleeve.

Abstract: In order to eliminate components in an internal combustion engine, and to thereby reduce the cost and weight while enhancing compactness in a rigid yet quiet arrangement, a valve train assembly is disclosed. The internal combustion engine has a valve with an integral valve stem, a valve lifter in engagement with a cam, and a rocker arm in engagement with the valve stem. The valve train assembly is such that the rocker arm is in engagement with the valve lifter at a first point along its length and is in engagement with the valve stem at a second point along its length. The rocker arm has a recess at the first point along its length for receiving and engaging the valve lifter therein. The valve train assembly is also such that the rocker arm has a surface at the second point along its length to thereby move the valve in response to movement of the valve lifter. The internal combustion engine also includes a mounting for the rocker arm at a point intermediate the first and second points along its length for pivotal movement thereof. With these features, the valve train assembly is such that movement of the valve lifter is imparted through the rocker arm to the valve stem in a most highly efficient and compact manner in a quiet internal combustion engine.

Abstract: A rocker arm assembly for use in internal combustion engines comprising a rocker arm member having a longitudinal extent and including bearing means for mounting the member for oscillation about an axis perpendicular to its longitudinal extent. An insert body defining a push rod seat recess is press fitted in an end of the rocker arm member to extend transversely to the axis of oscillation. The insert has a first generally cylindrical end portion of a first diameter and a second axially aligned generally cylindrical end portion of a smaller diameter. The first end portion is spaced from the second end portion by an intermediate transition surface which is inclined relative to the axis of the cylindrical end portions. The push rod seat recess extends axially into the first end of the body. Abstract: In an engine valve train, each rocker arm and its associate fulcrum are provided with cooperating inner and outer cylindrical surface contours carrying the reaction forces of rocker arm, the ratio of the radius of the outer surface contour being approximately in the order of 3:1 to 1.7:1 and preferably 2:1, the rocker arm and fulcrum having a cooperating retainer recess and pin, intermediate the ends of the associate bearing surface, to maintain alignment of these elements in substantially rolling contact with each other during pivotable movement of the rocker arm.
