Abstract: Pump comprises a housing containing a guide pipe and having an opening in its lower part, via which heat transfer medium removed from the lower region of a reactor flows into the housing. Pump comprises a housing (14) containing a guide pipe (13) and having an opening (15) in its lower part, via which heat transfer medium (6) removed from the lower region of a reactor flows into the housing. The medium further flows up between the inner wall of the housing and the outer wall of the guide pipe via a heat exchanger (18), via an opening in the upper region of the pipe into the inner chamber of the pipe, then via an opening in the lower region of the pipe into a further intermediate chamber between the inner wall of the housing and the outer wall of the guide pipe, and finally into the upper region of the intermediate chamber between contact tubes. Preferred Features: The pump is a propeller pump having three or more blades. The housing is rectangular or circular. Baffle plates (19) are arranged in one or more deviating regions of the housing for the heat transfer medium.

Abstract: In a process for the preparation of acrolein or acrylic acid or a mixture thereof from propane, the propane is subjected, in a first reaction stage, to a partial dehydrogenation under heterogeneous catalysis to give propene, of the components contained in the product gas mixture formed in the first reaction stage other than propene and propane at least a portion of the molecular hydrogen present is then separated off from said mixture and the product gas mixture is then used for the preparation of acrolein and/or acrylic acid by gas-phase catalytic propylene oxidation, molecular nitrogen being present for diluting the reaction gas mixture during the propylene oxidation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing shell catalysts for the catalytic vapor-phase oxidation of aromatic carboxylic acids and/or carboxylic acid anhydrides comprised of a supporting core and of catalytically active metal oxides which are deposited in a shell-shaped manner on said supporting core. The inventive catalysts are obtained by spraying an aqueous active mass suspension, said suspension containing the active metal oxides, at higher temperatures onto the hot supporting material which has a temperature ranging from 50 to 450° C. The aqueous active mass suspension contains 1 to 10 wt. %, with regard to the solid content of the active mass suspension, a binding agent comprised of A) a polymerizate obtained by radical polymerization, containing 5 to 100 wt. % of monomers (a) in the form of ethylenically unsaturated acid anhydrides or ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids whose carboxyl groups can form an anhydride and containing 0 to 95 wt. % monoethylenically unsaturated monomers (b) with the provision that the monomers (a) and (b) comprise, on average, a maximum of 6 carbon atoms which are not functionalized with groups containing oxygen, and of B) an alkanolamine having at least 2 OH groups, a maximum of 2 nitrogen atoms and a maximum of 8 C-atoms, whereby the weight ratio A:B ranges from 1:0.05 to 1:1.

Abstract: A description is given of a process for preparing aldehydes, carboxylic acids and/or carboxylic anhydrides, in particular phthalic anhydride, in which a gaseous stream comprising an aromatic hydrocarbon and molecular oxygen is passed at elevated temperature over a bed of a first catalyst and a bed which is made up of a second catalyst having a higher activity than the first catalyst and is located downstream of the first catalyst in the flow direction of the gaseous stream, wherein the catalytically active composition of the first catalyst comprises at least vanadium oxide, titanium dioxide and antimony oxide and the ratio of vanadium, calculated as V 2 O 5 , to antimony, calculated as Sb 2 O 3 , in the first catalyst is from 3.5:1 to 5:1. The source of antimony oxide used for the first catalyst is preferably particulate antimony trioxide having a mean particle size of from 0.5 to 5 mum. The process allows the desired oxidation products to be obtained in high yield over longer periods of time.
