Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for cleaning or sanitizing carpet or upholstery. Powder, other solid, or agglomerate compositions include active oxygen compound, surfactant, and builder. The methods of cleaning or sanitizing carpet or upholstery include applying to the carpet or upholstery such a solid (e.g., powder) or agglomerate composition or a use solution of one of these compositions.
Abstract:
A coated substrate comprises a strippable intermediate coating atop the substrate and a strip agent-permeable waterborne overcoat adhered to the intermediate coating, wherein the dried overcoat is less trippable and more wear-resistant than the dried intermediate coating. When the overcoat eventually becomes worn and must be renewed, a strip agent (e.g., chemical strip agent) can be applied to the overcoat. The strip agent penetrates the overcoat and attacks the intermediate coating, thereby enabling removal of t he intermediate coating and overcoat without aggressive removal techniques such as sanding.
Abstract:
A method for antimicrobial treatment comprising applying to microbes a composition containing a diluting solvent (e.g., water), an antimicrobially- active solvent having a density different from the density of the diluting solvent, and an optional cosolvent, surfactant, or additional antimicrobial agent, wherein the amount of antimicrobially-active solvent or additional antimicrobial agent is sufficiently high and the amount of cosolvent or surfactant is sufficiently low so that the composition will provide greater than a 1-log order reduction in the population of bacteria or spores of Bacillus cereus within 10 seconds at 60 ~C. Preferred methods of the inventi on employ compositions containing an additional antimicrobial agent such as peroxyacetic acid. Compositions for use in the method can be prepared as concentrates, and used full strength or in diluted form.
Abstract:
An antimicrobial and antiviral composition in powder form or in the form of a two part liquid concentrate for washing and sanitizing foods, food surfaces, food ware, process waters, animal quarters, and animal carcasses is described. The composition may also be used to reduce the microbial and viral population on animals; reducing human pathogenic microbes, reducing opportunistic pathogenic microbes on eggs, and treating skin diseases. The composition includes three reactive species which in solution form an oxidizing species, and optionally a food grade acid source. The reactive species include a natural source of a quaternary or protonizable nitrogen compound which is acceptable on foods, an oxidant and a halide source.
Abstract:
A hydrophobic and particulate soil removal composition is provided. The composition can be used for removing organic hydrophobic soils, such as oily or greasy soils, from a laundry item and/or from a hard surface such as an engine part and/or from skin. The composition can be used in a liquid or solid form and can be applied to individual laundry items in the form of a solid stick or liquid spray prior to introduction to the laundry machine. Laundry items can also be contacted in the laundry machine with the pre-spot or pre-treatment composition in the form of an aqueous presoak, preflush, prewash, or other step prior to the cleaning step. The treatment composition can be used as a recirculating liquid stream or bath for the cleaning of hard surfaces. The composition includes an ethoxylate component and a fatty acid ester component.
Abstract:
A sanitizing fabric sour composition can comprise a peracid material. The sanitizing sour materials of the invention can be used in a laundry process in which soiled garments are contacted with the sanitizing sour following an alkaline detergent in a cleaning step. In the souring step, the garments are contacted with the peracid material that both neutralizes alkaline components and sanitizes the cleaned garment. The fabric sour process of the invention can be conducted at reduced temperatures while obtaining sufficient sanitization.
Abstract:
A method of reducing slippage between a mat having a flexible polymer back surface and a contiguous second surface such as a floor or counter top comprises applying an aqueous solution of poly(vinyl acetate) to the back surface or the second surface, and contacting the surfaces while the aqueous solution is still wet. Especially the back surface comprises natural or synthetic rubber or elastomer. The contacting may be performed after partial drying. The aqueous solution may be applied by spraying and may comprise 1 to 90% by weight of the solution of poly(vinyl acetate) or 1 to 99% by weight of the solution as poly(vinyl acetate).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to compositions including a water soluble magnesium salt, water soluble calcium salt, and gluconate, which have a beneficial effect on corrosion during cleaning. The present compositions can reduce corrosion of glass, aluminum, or steel. The present invention also relates to methods employing these compositions.
