Abstract: HOE 91/F 318 Process for the preparation of 2-nitro-5-fluoro- or -5-chlorophenol The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of isomerically pure 2-nitro-5-fluoro- or -5-chlorophenol, by reacting 2,4-difluoronitrobenzene or 2,4-dichloronitrobenzene with aqueous alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide solution or suspension in the absence of organic solvents or other solubility promoting substances at temperatures from about 20.degree.C to about 190.degree.C, adjusting the pH of the reaction mixture to about 1 to about 6 by the addition of acid, steam distilling the resultant product and isolating it from the distillate after cooling.

Abstract: of the disclosure HOE 87/F 066J A process for the production of high-purity tetrachloro1,4-benzoquinone by the action of chlorine and hydrochloric acid on hydroquinone which comprising causing 1.9 to 2.1 times the molar quantity of gaseous chlorine to act at temperatures from 5 to 15.degree.C on 1 mol of hydroquinone in 6 to 7 times the molar quantity of 30 to 37 % hydrochloric acid, then diluting the resulting suspension, essentially containing 2,5-dichlorohydroquinone, with 2 to 3 parts of water, relative to hydroquinone employed, and initially warming to a temperature from 20 to 30.degree.C, subsequently introducing 1.9 to 2.1 times the molar quantity of chlorine gas in an air atmosphere while raising the temperature to 90-100.degree.C with simultaneous dilution with 3.5 to 4.5 parts of water, relative to hydroquinone employed, and finally introducing 1 to 2 times the molar quantity of gaseous chlorine, relative to hydroquinone employed, at temperatures from 100 to 115.degree.C

Abstract: 1. A process for the preparation of a compound of the general formula see diagramm : EP0212607,P11,F3 in which R denotes a chlorine or bromine atom and X denotes a hydrogen atom or a (C1 -C6 ) alkyl group and n denotes the number 0, 1 or 2, wherein halo-benzenes of the general formula (2) see diagramm : EP0212607,P11,F4 in which R and X have the meanings specified above and Y represents a chlorine or bromine atom, are reacted with mercaptoethanol in a dipolar aprotic solvent in the presence of an alkali metal oxide, hydroxide or carbonate at temperatures of 80-140 degrees C to form halophenyl hydroxyethyl sulfides of the general formula (3) see diagramm : EP0212607,P12,F1 in which R and X have the meanings specified above, and these are reacted directly in the reaction mixture produced or after removal of the volatile and solid components, preferably in the presence of water, at a pH of 1 to 7 at temperatures of 20 to 120 degrees C with 1 mol of oxidizing agent (per mol of halophenyl hydroxyethyl sulfide) to form compounds of the formula (1) with n = 1, or are reacted with at least 2 mol of oxidizing agent (per mol of halophenyl hydroxyethyl sulfide) to form the compounds of formula (1) with n = 2.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of 1,4-bis(4-hydroxyben-zoyl)benzene A process for the preparation of 1,4-bis(4-hydroxyben-zoyl)benzene of the formula (I) (I) by rearranging diphenyl terephthalate of the formula (II) (II) in about 3 to about 50 parts, relative to the diphenyl terephthalate, of an anhydrous organic solvent which is inert to the reactants, in the presence of about 30 to about 500 mol-% of a haloalkanesulfonic acid (catalyst) of the general formula (III) or (IV) Y(CnX2n)SO3H (III) Y(CnF2n)SO3H (IV), in which Y is a fluorine or hydrogen atom, and X is a fluorine and/or chlorine atom, with the proviso that at least one X is a fluorine atom, and n is an integer from 1 to 10, at temperatures of about 10 to about 200.degree.C.
