Abstract: Aromatic copolyamides are described, which are soluble in organic amide solvents. The polymers are composed to at least 95 mol % of repeat structural units A: -OC-AR-CO- B: -HN-Ar'-NH- C: -HN-Ar''-NH- in the combinations A+B+C+D, or A+C+D+E and up to 5 mol % of m-bond-containing structural units F and/or G derived from aromatic dicarboxylic acids (F') and/or from aromatic diamines (G'), the sum total of the mole fractions of structural units A+F and the sum total of the mole fractions of the structural units of B+C+D+E+G being essentially the same, -Ar- and -Ar'- are divalent aromatic radicals whose C-N valence bonds are in a para-position or in a similar coaxial or parallel position and which may be substituted by one or two inert radicals, such as lower alkykl or halogen, is a trivalent aromatic radical which after removal of the -SO2R group has the same meaning as -Ar- or -Ar'- or else is the structural unit wehre X is -O-, -NHCO-, -SO2- or -CO-, -R is lower alkyl and -R' is lower alkyl or alkoxy, and the proportions of the diamine components B, C, D and E are within the following limits: B: 25-47.5 mol % C: 7.5-30 mol D: 45-67.5 mol and E: 20-40 mol.

Abstract: HOE 89/F 383 Process for the preparation of 3,4'-dichlorodiphenyl ether A process for the preparation of 3,4'-dichlorodiphenyl ether from 1,3-dichlorobenzene and 4-chlorophenol, which comprises mixing 1 mol of 4-chlorophenol with about 2 to about 6 mol of initially introduced 1,3-dichlorobenzene and about 1 to about 3 mol of potassium carbonate in about 1 to about 5 mol of a dipolar aprotic solubilizer which boils above l60.degree.C, at temperatures of about 160.degree.C to about 190.degree.C with stirring, then adding about 0.0l to about 1 mol-% of basic copper carbonate of the formula Cu(OH)2?CuCO3?0.5 H2O and heating with stirring to about 170 to about 173.degree.C while removing the water formed by distillation, then optionally adding further 4-chloxo-phenol with the proviso that from the start the amount of 1,3-dichlorobenzene present in terms of moles is always 1 to 3 mol greater than the totally added amount of 4-chlorophenol and, if desired, additionally adding basic copper carbonate of the formula mentioned if at the start less than 0.1 mol-% had been added, additionally stirring within the last-mentioned temperature range and finally working up after allowing to cool.

Abstract: Aromatic copolyether amide which can be processed as a thermoplastic, process for its preparation and its use for the production of moldings The structure of the aromatic copolyether amide which can be processed as a thermoplastic comprises recurring units of the formulae -CO-Ar1-CO- (A), -NH-Ar1-O-Ar1-X-Ar1-O-Ar1-NH (B) and -NH-Ar2-NH- (C) in which Ar1 denotes a divalent, unsubstituted or substituted aromatic radical having 6 carbon atoms which is linked in the p-position, X represents a 2,2-propylidene link and Ar2 is identical with Ar1 or is Ar1 which is linked in the m-position, or is the -Ar1-Z-Ar1- group in which Z is a direct bond or is a radical -CH2-, -C(CH3) 2-, -SO2-, -CO-, -O-, -CH=CH-, -CO-NH- or -O-Ar1-O- or the radical in which R represents hydrogen or a branched or unbranched alkyl radical having 1-4 carbon atoms. The proportion of units (A) and of the sum of units (B) and (C) is each 100 mol-%, the proportion of units (C) being up to 50 mol-% and, if Z represents -SO2-, up to 75 mol-%. The Staudinger index ¢?! of the copolyether amide is in the range from 50 to 1000 cm3/g, and the value of the glass transition temperature is above 200.degree.C. The copolyether amide is prepared by a low-temperature solution, solid, interface or melt condensation process. The moldings produced therefrom in the form of filaments, wires, films and other moldings are obtained by processing the pulverulent copolyether smides or their solutions.

Abstract: A thermoplastically processible aromatic polyetheramide, in which the structure comprises the repeating units of the formulae -CO-Ar-CO- (A) and -NH-Ar-O-Ar-X-Ar-O-Ar-NH- (B) in which Ar signifies a bivalent unsubstituted or substituted aromatic radical having 6 carbon atoms, and whose linkages are in the p-position and X denotes a 2,2propylidene linkage, the polyetheramide having an intrinsic viscosity ¢.pi.! in the range of 50 to 750 cm3/g, and a glass transition temperature of above 200.degree.C, and a process for its production. The production of the polyetheramide is carried out by a low temperature solution condensation process, a solid phase condensation process, an interfacial condensation process or a melt condensation process. The polyetheramide is used for the production of molded articles in the form of filaments, wires, films and other moldings, which are produced by extrusion, press-molding or injection molding of the dry polyetheramide in powder form or by processing of solutions of the polyetheramide.
