    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject base-coating agent containing a water-based polymer emulsion and effective in preventing the discoloration of nail by applying to the surface of nail prior to the application of a nitrocellulose-based nail enamel. CONSTITUTION:The objective base-coating agent for nitrocellulose-based nail enamel contains 5-60wt.% (in terms of solid) of a water-based polymer emulsion. The water-based polymer emulsion is preferably a cationic emulsion, which can be produced by adding water to an organic solvent solution (preferably methyl ethyl ketone solution) of a copolymer derived from 2-10wt.% of a monomer having a basic nitrogen atom and a double bond (e.g. N,N- dimethylaminoethyl acrylate) and 90-98wt.% of a hydrophobic monomer having a double bond (e.g. methyl acrylate) and distilling off the organic solvent. The base-coating agent has high film-forming property and film strength, and gives a coating film having excellent water-resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic having excellent luster and film-forming property and containing a water-based composite polymer emulsion containing emulsion-constituting polymer particles composed of at least two layers, wherein the polymer of the outermost layer has lower softening point than the polymer of the inner layer. CONSTITUTION:A water-based composite polymer emulsion composed of polymer particles having an outer layer composed of a water-based vinyl resin (A) and an inner layer composed of a polymer of a monomer (B) having a double bond is produced by polymerizing the monomer (B) in the presence of the vinyl resin (A). The objective cosmetic having excellent water-resistance, e.g. hair cosmetic or skin cosmetic contains 1-60wt.% of the above polymer emulsion in terms of solid component. The resin (A) is produced by adding water to an organic solvent solution of a copolymer of 0.5-15wt.% of a monomer having a salt- forming group and a double bond (e.g. acrylic acid) and 85-99.5wt.% of a monomer having a double bond (e.g. methyl acrylate) and distilling off the organic solvent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display device which has a good contrast, hardly generate the uneveness of colors and has excellent durability by constituting a spacer of polymer fine particles having 1X10 to 1X10 OMEGAcm specific volume resisturity value. CONSTITUTION:The spacer is constituted of the polymer fine particles having 1X10 to 1X10 OMEGAcm specific volume resistance value. The spacer consisting of the polyer fine particles having a hetero-5-memberd ring compd. and/or the oxidation polymer of arom. hydrocarbon at least on the surface is particularly preferable as the spacer for liquid crystal display. Such spacer for liquid crystal display can be manufacture from the polymer fine particles conts. >=0.05milli equiv./g anionic functional group. Thus, the resulted polymer fine particles are colored and since the specific volume resistivity value is adequate, the particles do not disturb the orientation of the liquid crystal as foreign matter and the liquid crystal display panel which has the good contrast and is free from the uneveness of colors is obtd. when the spacer is used as the spacer for liquid crystal display.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject highly absorbing and oil-absorbing fine particles by dispersing a monomer mixture containing a hydrophilic monomer containing polyethylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate and crosslinkable monomer in an aqueous medium in the presence of an oil-soluble substance and polymerizing the monomer mixture. CONSTITUTION:In an aqueous medium, is dispersed 100 pts.wt. monomer mixture containing 30-90 pts.wt. hydrophilic monomer containing polyethylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate and 10-70 pts.wt. crosslinking monomer [preferably polyethylene glycol di(meth)acrylate] in the presence of 10-300 pts.wt. oil-soluble substance (e.g. isopropyl alcohol). Polymerization of the monomer mixture is then carried out to afford the objective fine particles, consisting of shell walls of an organic polymer compound having 1.5-10 swelling degree for a liquid substance and capable of providing a spherical shape in enclosing the above- mentioned liquid substance and flat shape in releasing the aforementioned liquid substance.

CONSTITUTION:This sensor is equipped with a container which is filled with a non-water soluble carrier whose surface is covered with a high polymer containing a pyridinium group as given by a formula (wherein R represents a benzene group, a phenethyl group, a 1-16C alkyl group or a pentafluorophenyl methyl group and X a halogen atom) for adsorption of a microorganism in a molecule and an electrochemical device to determine a substance which is generated or consumed with the anion of the microorganisms being separated from each other. The high polymer containing a pyridinium group in the mole cule includes a benzyl group and phenethyl group or the like. The use of this sensor enables measurement of various substances such as saccharides quickly and easily in addition to BOD in water.

CONSTITUTION:The objective detergent composition contains a copolymer of (A) a recurring unit of formula I (R1 is H, methyl or ethyl) and (B) a recurring unit of formula II (R2 is 4-15C alkyl, aryl or aralkyl) at a weight ratio (A/B) of 9/1-1/9 (preferably 8/2-4/6) as an active component. The molecular weight of the copolymer is preferably 500-20,000, especially 1,000-6,000. The copolymer can be produced by the ring-opening isomerization cationic polymerization of a 2-substituted-2-oxazoline.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material which is effectively prevented from adhesion of refuse or sticking and causes little abrasion of a thermal head, by incorporating specified fine particles of a porous organic high molecular weight compound into a thermal color forming layer and/or an undercoat layer. CONSTITUTION:Fine particles of a porous organic high molecular weight com pound used in a thermal recording material can improve feeding properties such as adhesion of refuse and sticking, through absorbing an electron-donative dye, a phenolic substance for developing a color by reacting with the dye, a melted product of a known wax used as a sensitizer, or the like. This takes place at the surfaces of the porous fine particles, so that the particles must have a BET specific surface area of at least 30m /g, and a particle diameter sufficient for absorption of the melted product, namely, 0.1-10mum. The amount of the fine particles used in a thermal recording layer or a coat layer is desir ably 1-50wt.%, preferably, 3-20wt.% based on the recording layer.
