PURPOSE: A converter device, a method thereof, and a computer program thereof are provided to remarkably reduce the loss of a resistor by supplying a low voltage. CONSTITUTION: A self-oscillating output terminal(112) drives at least one light source part(L). A starter circuit(120) starts the self-oscillating of the output terminal. A control circuit(108) drives the starter circuit in order to selectively start the self-oscillating of the output terminal. The starter circuit comprises a RC network and an electronic switch which has a capacitor capable of being charged form a voltage.

An electronic ballast (12), which is known per se, for a lamp (14) which is designed for continuous filament pre-heating is used, according to the invention, in an environment in which the temperature is-20°C or less. When driving the electronic ballast (12), the continuous filament preheating of the electronic ballast (12) is activated at a first predetermined time, and the process of starting the lamp is activated at a second predetermined time. The electronic ballast (12) can be driven as appropriate for the environment (16) in which the electronic ballast (12) is located, by means of a suitable digital addressable lighting interface (DALI) controller (22).

The present invention relates to a circuit arrangement for starting a discharge lamp (20) with a driving apparatus, at whose output a drive signal with a predeterminable frequency can be provided; an inverter (14), which is coupled to the output of the drive apparatus and at whose output a square-wave signal with a predeterminable duty factor can be provided; a load circuit (16), which is coupled to the output of the inverter (14) and has at least one connection for the discharge lamp (20); a first control loop (Ri) with a first reference variable, a first manipulated variable and a first controlled variable, wherein the first control loop (Ri) has a first time constant; a second control loop (Ra) with a second reference variable, an auxiliary manipulated variable and a second controlled variable, wherein the second control loop (Ra) has a second time constant; wherein the auxiliary manipulated variable of the second control loop (Ra) represents the first reference variable of the first control loop (Ri), and the first time constant is smaller than the second time constant at least by a factor of 10, and wherein the first manipulated variable represents the duty factor of the output signal of the inverter (14). The invention furthermore relates to a method for starting a discharge lamp (20) using such a circuit arrangement.
