Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing a Cynomorium songaricum extract for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases is provided to be used as a pharmaceutical composition or a health functional food without side effects. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases contains a Cynomorium songaricum extract as an active ingredient. The extract promotes differentiation and proliferation of neuroblast. The neurodegenerative diseases are selected from the group consisting of senile dementia, Alzheimer`s diseases, and Parkinson`s disease. The extract is prepared using a solvent selected from the group consisting of water, C1-C5 alcohols, and a mixture thereof. A food composition for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases contains the extract as an active ingredient.
