Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing Codonopsis lanceolat extract is provided to suppress neuron apoptosis and glial cell activity and to effectively prevent neural injury. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating ischemic cerebral diseases contains Codonopsis lanceolat extract as an active ingredient. The diseases include cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, senile dementia, Alzheimer disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington disease, or thromboembolism. The extract is isolated using water, alcohol of 1-5 carbon atoms or mixture thereof. A food composition for preventing or treating the diseases contains the extract as an active ingredient.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A novel compound is provided to excellently protect nerve cells, to suppress apoptosis of the nerve cells and activity of glial cells, and to effectively prevent and treat ischemic cerebrovascular diseases. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating ischemic cerebrovascular diseases contains a compound of chemical formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The ischemic cerebrovascular diseaes are selected from a group consisting of cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage. A pharmaceutical composition for regeneration of nerve cells contains the compound of chemical formula 1 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. A method for preparing the compound comprises a step of reacting a compound of chemical formula 2 with a compound of chemical formula 3.
