Abstract: Provided are a method of providing information of a system including an electronic device and an information providing server, and an electronic device adopting the method. According to the method, the electronic device sends position information on an area, where a user desires to search, and an area information request signal to the information providing server; the information providing server searches for area information on the area by using a social network service of users located in the area in response to the area information request signal; the information providing server sends the searched area information to the electronic device; and, the electronic device displays an area information user interface (UI) by using the area information received from the information providing server and a map of the area. Thus, the user can acknowledge information, which requires strict real time properties such as weather information and traffic volume information, in real time by using the social network service.
