The present invention relates to a composition for prevention and treatment of stroke containing a Lindera erythrocarpa extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom, as active ingredients. The Lindera erythrocarpa extract, the fraction thereof, or the compound isolated therefrom (methyl lucidone or methyl linderone) has no cytotoxicity to neurons, effectively inhibits neurotoxicity of microglia activated in stroke by effectively suppressing iNOS expression and NO generation in LPS-stimulated microglia; secretion of proinflammatory cytokines; and phosphorylation of ERK, p38, Akt, and the like and NF-κB signaling path, and exhibits neuroprotective effects against neuronal cell death. Therefore, The Lindera erythrocarpa extract, the fraction thereof, or the compound isolated therefrom is useful in prevention, function improvement, treatment, and assistance for treatment of stroke.

PURPOSE: A Lindera erythrocarpa-derived compound is provided to obtain a composition for skin whitening showing melanin inhibitory activity higher than existing albutin known as a whitening agent. CONSTITUTION: A method for separating a Lindera erythrocarpa-derived compound comprises the steps of: extracting Lindera erythrocarpa in a solvent to obtain Lindera erythrocarpa extracts; partitioning the Lindera erythrocarpa extracts into hexane, methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, and butanol to obtain solvent fractions; partitioning the Lindera erythrocarpa extracts by performing a primary silicagel column chromatography using hexane and ethyl acetate as a solvent; and applying a secondary silica gel column chromatography to the extracts using a mixed solvent of hexane and ethyl acetate.
